What's your biggest waste of money ?

Ok so currently fuming at myself and my stupidity because I purchased something by accident thinking it was an upgrade for an item but it was infact the same one I already owned. It's the type of thing that cannot be resold.

Company have refused to help even though I proved already having the item etc etc . Anyway.... £60 down the drain on nothing .

Also started a small hobby business but struggling to see how I'll get the money back that I put in Blush (not mlm btw) so another £300 gone (be lucky to get £100)

What's your biggest waste of money lately? Make me feel better that it's not just me who throws money into the wind and kicks myself for weeks on end about it. Sad

Treadmill. Convinced DP I would absolutely use it, would be cheaper in the long run than paying for the gym etc. Used it three times then realised that the reason I like going to the gym is it gives me a break from DC. Can't face the humiliation of telling him that he was right so force myself on it four times a week.

BikeRunSki · 14/09/2021 13:33

I paid for a flu jab last week, then realised I could have had it free as I am over 50. I am still getting used to being over 50.

BillyJoe111 · 14/09/2021 13:38

The exercise bike.

£299 bought in February with £300 a relative left in their will. Used twice and been folded up in the corner of the conservatory ever since.

Bananalanacake · 14/09/2021 14:01

75 pounds on a twin tub washing machine when I first moved out of home, could have taken the washing to my parents house and done it there but no, I was trying to be independent.

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 14/09/2021 14:07

Stupidly bought a 'no no' years ago, no idea why really, obviously it was absolutely rubbish.

Gardenlass · 14/09/2021 14:11

Money spent on hobbies. Cross stitch, embroidery using a £1500 embroidery machine that I don't use any more, knitting, leather work, watercolours, piano keyboard that I'm rubbish at playing.
I must have wasted thousands over the years. Sad

PivotPivotPivottt · 14/09/2021 14:15

Take aways. I eat a disgusting amount of take aways and the money I spend is ridiculous considering I don't have much money to begin with. Then I complain all the time about being skint Hmm. I seriously need to get a grip.

justpoppy · 14/09/2021 14:59

A DNA test for my rescue dog. Came back as part tiny toy dog part huge mountain type breed. He looks like a small golden retriever! Best part of £100 down the drain but it gave us a good laugh!

@NothingIsWrong

Also craft supplies here. Fabric and yarn. Also just invested in the Aldi overlocker that is on the site at the moment - went over a pin the second time I used it and knackered the cutting knife. No problem, it comes with a spare. Changed the knife and promptly did the exact same thing again. Then discovered that you can't get replacements ANYWHERE that I can find, so I'm hoping the wee hardware shop man who sharpens knifes can re edge them for me, but they are really tiny...
The Aldi overlocker is a rebadged singer model. I can’t remember the model but there’s a recent YouTube review where it’s mentioned.
ChampagneWorries · 14/09/2021 15:15

Lacoste shoes that squeaked when I walked and nothing would stop it. Lacoste didn’t want to know. Had them 6 weeks -£90

Boots that felt like bricks on my feet, wore them twice -£120

Numerous barely worn coats - £300

Very expensive coat for me to slim into and it’s still in my wardrobe with tags on 3 years later -£800

H1978 · 14/09/2021 15:20

The amount I’ve spent on lipsticks that look nothing like the online picture and either are too bright or too light on an Indian skin tone. Can’t be sent back so I’ve binned them. Such a waste 😔

VeganVeal · 14/09/2021 15:30

@Cassimin

Shower cubicle 2 weeks ago. Plumer told me to order 700mm so I did. It came, was too small. Plumer called me up to show me, saying I’d ordered wrong size/ they’d sent wrong size ( making out it was my fault) I got the tape measure and measured it - it was 7500mm! Stuck in my hall for 2 weeks, sold it on fb for £50, cost me £200
7500mm, that 7.5 meters, or 24 feet, thats a big shower
LowlandLucky · 14/09/2021 15:38

I am normally very careful but i bought a Yankee candle, the bloody thing chuffs black smoke everywhere. I will stick to Prices open window candle from now on.

NothingIsWrong · 14/09/2021 15:46

@Jins OMG thank you - I think I've found the knife it needs, Singer S14-78

Not cheap but at least fucking available!

Olivegreenstrawberries · 14/09/2021 15:53

I booked an air BnB for a night so I could have a night away from all mother duties. I've never done anything like that before but I just really felt like I needed it. I couldn't find the place, had no signal on sat nav, no signal to call for directions, no one to ask for directions. I had to come home. I felt like a failure!!!

GingerBeverage · 14/09/2021 15:55

Forgot to cancel a hotel booking.

3GreenPullups · 14/09/2021 15:57

Alcohol for me.

And also dresses I buy thinking I will slim down into. I have large bones, and last week I took out 3 such dresses (Hobbs, Laura Ashley and LK Bennett) all with tags on and realised the waist seems would not even fit around my ribcage even if I only had ribs and not flesh.

Problem is I have had them so long they are out of fashion and I can't even flog the fuckers on facebook.

3GreenPullups · 14/09/2021 15:57

*waist seams

GreatOak · 14/09/2021 16:09

VIP tents at a festival which was cancelled in 2020 and again in 2021 = £1,200. We can’t go next year but friends pleaded to buy ours, so against my better judgement did not take the refund when offered by organisers this year.

Refund date passed, friends announce they’re no longer going. Now in the position of having to re-sell them, and unlikely to get the full money back (plus the hassle). Hmm

cstaff · 14/09/2021 16:15

Another one is a weekend in London staying with a friend (I flew in from Dublin). I went to Stansted to get my flight home at 10pm only to be told my flight was 10am that morning. I had to go back to my friend's place by taxi and rebook a new flight for the following morning. I never made that mistake again.

PollyDarton1 · 14/09/2021 16:18

I had ADHD and the amount of supplies I've bought for hobbies in the past that have amounted to nothing when I realise I'm more or less hopeless at everything, well, beggars belief.

That and toys I've bought for my son who can't seem to play independently.

Jins · 14/09/2021 16:28

@NothingIsWrong so pleased you found it. Sharpening overlocker knives isn’t very successful

Have fun with it

PinotGrigio · 14/09/2021 16:34

Have you seen this @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz?

It comes pre-filled one of every thread colour.

What's your biggest waste of money ?
Laiste · 14/09/2021 17:22

Cross trainer about 15 years ago. Basically a £200 clothe hanger Hmm

£200 Hobbs trench coat. Thought it would be tres chic ... Hmm

Nearly everything i order from Next after 9/10pm at night. I seem to go into an unrealistic trance at that time of night. The stuff never looks good on me when it gets here and i seem to think a couple of weeks eating low fat yogurt will fix that but strangely it never does ...

Antinerak · 14/09/2021 17:25

Dh bought me a lovely dress that I later found out was £300. I usually alter my own clothes but didn't want to risk damaging this one so took it to a seamstress. She got my order mixed up with someone else who was requesting an adult's dress was made into a child's dress. The gave me the cost of the work (£30) and that was it.
