Flying experience for DP

Hi everyone I saw on another thread that someone bought their DH a learn to fly lesson. I would like to do this for DP. However, he is 22 stone. Does anyone know if it would be possible for him to do it at that weight and where I can buy tickets from?

I had one of these as a present from DH. 22st could be an issue - I just looked at one of our local flying schools and their limit is 16st. The cockpits of small light aircraft are not roomy and it can be awkward climbing in. Best thing would be to search online for flying clubs near you, see which ones do trial or taster flights, and ask them about their weight limit.

No help on the weight but my DH did this and loved it so much he went on to train for his private pilots licence, very expensive and time consuming hobby!

Thank you both. Yes he did say he would like to do that but he even said at the moment he is too heavy. I'm just hoping that he'll somehow be able to do it because I have no ideas for another Christmas present!

I believe part of the issue is balancing the plane. So your DH is 22st and the instructor say 12, the plane won't be balanced. We bought a pleasure trip for my dad but he couldn't sit in the front as he was too heavy.

You’d have to ask the flying school to calculate a weight and balance.
He sounds too big to me, but do ask. It depends what planes they use, a Cherokee might just be ok.
