Contemplating going for a walk tomorrow down a muddy bridleway and elegantly twisting my ankle... then a handsome man astride a magnificent horse coming to my aid...

So much more appealing than meeting the men I seem to meet 😂 and I don't want to go anywhere near OLD

Hmm...

Knowing my luck, it'd be like that scene in vicar of dibley when she jumps into the deep puddle, less elegant, more baby giraffe.

Autumnleavesfalling · 13/09/2021 21:39

Realistically that would be more me too... but I am indulging in a flight of fancy

😂

Be careful doing that. Such actions tend to attract scoundrels who love you and leave you holding the baby.

You're much better off going to a ball in a public place and having a young man accidentally bump into your chaperone

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/09/2021 21:56

The handsome rescuer on his horse turned out to be a complete arse, though. You might do better with some standoffish bugger who refuses to dance with you at a ball.

Autumnleavesfalling · 13/09/2021 21:58

Hmm...a bridleway is much more accessible than a ball

Perhaps an aloof man in the freezer aisle contemplating petit pois?

But I must say, having whoever it is saying, ‘You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you,’ certainly beats, ‘Fancy a shag, then?’

I work in Steventon, where Jane was born and spent her happiest years by all accounts and can lay some facts down here for you:

Good Lord was she a hiker, she bought her socks in Oakley and I tried to replicate the walk: nearly died of exhaustion. She must have had quads like a Tour de France champ.

I've been lucky enough to work in a private home where she used to go to dances. The dancing room was so very tiny I'm surprised there were not more injuries. I now understand why the steps were so formal (you'd have been headfirst into a wood panel if you attempted a frivolous twirl).

Plenty of opportunities for graceful falls in the fields on the way to Overton as the entire lot are populated by Waterbuffalo. Churny mud machines that they are. I pity whoever had to wash her hems.

You need some wealthy relatives who’ll introduce you to some even wealthier local stately home owners, or take you to town for a holiday, where you can see & be seen.
Get your reticule ready, your life is about to change!
