What does everyone do with old baby clothes?

Just that really. We kept most things from DC1 but DC2 is a boy, so loads of lovely, barely worn dresses etc that we can't use.
Ideal scenario would be to give to a friend but not an option at the mo and I don't want to store stuff on the off chance someone has a girl soon. Also looked into donating to a women's refuge or baby bank, but all the ones near us are fully stocked and not accepting donations. Could take to the charity shop, but who would buy baby clothes secondhand when you could get something same price from supermarket?
Last option is the local primary is doing one of those clothing donations where a company pays for clothes per kg and then sells on to places in Africa. Doesn't seem as wholesome as a woman in need in this country using them, but helps the school I guess.

What does everyone else do?

Do you have a local clothes swap ? We have one that does pop up events in various town halls

mayblossominapril · 12/09/2021 18:14

ask your HV or local hospital of they need anything, sell a bundle on facebook or eBay

HalleLouja · 12/09/2021 18:16

We have local reuse fb pages, I would try those. There is always someone happy to take kids clothes.

I buy a lot of nice second hand clothes on eBay.
I could afford new but it’s my contribution to the environment and baby clothes are worn for such a short time they’re always in really good condition.

If you do decide to sell on eBay, grouping them into bundles is easiest.

I gave most of my baby clothes to a charity that helps teenage single mums.
My mum was in a home suffering from dementia when I had dd2. She had a doll that she carried about constantly. She would get upset that the baby had no clothes😉😉. I brought her a bag of dd's clothes and shoes. That bloody doll was the best dressed in the whole place with its designer clothes and trainers 😂😂 I ended up taking the clothes home to wash and iron.

Sell them (in bundles if normal stuff, e.g. Next, Tu, George; individually if branded stuff e.g. Frugi, Jojo, Boden)

Failing that...
Donate to baby bank
Donate to refugee appeal
Give to a friend
Clothing bin

Bundles on ebay. You might not make much but someone will be happy with a bargain.

Yodelayhehoo · 12/09/2021 18:21

Ask your HV she may know of a family who could do with them.
Otherwise, Facebook. There's often people in our village group giving away baby clothes to a family who needs them.

IamChipmunk · 12/09/2021 18:23

We do bundles on ebay, still now dc are 5 and 7. We find they sell really well.
You need to take some time doing decent pictures and remove any stained or ripped bits.

pinklillie · 12/09/2021 18:26

I've just discovered Vinted for buying and selling baby clothes. I haven't sold any of mine yet as I have people I am able to pass on to but I've been picking up all sorts of bundles. Especially now going in to autumn for long sleeved tops and bottoms etc. I consider it my contribution to keeping things moving along and not always buying new as my 8 mth old just isn't in the clothes long enough to need brand new every time. I've also just got some decent Halloween things for a couple of pounds each whereas in the shops they are a lot more expensive

pinklillie · 12/09/2021 18:27

I also just put all of my maternity and things that didn't fit in to a clothing bin as there didn't really seem anywhere else to donate them too either which seems a shame

MattyGroves · 12/09/2021 18:35

I give away on local Facebook groups, olio and for clothes over 12 months, nursery to use as spares

Mermaidpool · 12/09/2021 18:36

I donated most to a woman's refuge, some I sold as a bundle on fb

user1493494961 · 12/09/2021 18:36

Donate to a charity shop, people still buy them.

ThePenIsBlue · 12/09/2021 19:22

I just gave all my old baby clothes in lovely condition to the Afghan refugee appeal. I can’t imagine - these people have left with nothing and there have been women who’ve given birth since coming here.

ThedaBara · 13/09/2021 15:37

Thanks everyone!
As I said, none of the baby banks or organisations like that in my area are accepting donations at the moment, but the gov it turns out is asking for donations of goods and services for the Afghan refugees, so looking into that. Might sell some of the nicer bits and put the money into DC's bank accounts.
(I know I'm rethinking this, but it's a literal mountain of stuff so want to make sure I get rid of it responsibly!)
