Half term with a 4 year old

Want a few days away at half term. Can anyone recommend a place for taking a 4 year old? Feeling pretty uninspired but we need a change of scene.

Overnight stay at Legoland?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 12/09/2021 12:35

@PennyWus

Overnight stay at Legoland?
I like the idea of that, have you stayed over before? Is it onsite hotel or somewhere off site?

Drayton manor also good for overnight stays abd cheaper than legoland!

I would go somewhere you can enjoy no matter the weather, I'm not fond of legoland in the rain, but I'm happy to potter about the woods/beach in the rain.

Or somewhere with a (heated) swimming pool

Depends what you both enjoy doing really?!

Jurassic coast is good in any weather.

Just the two of you or?

My partner will be coming too so 2 adults and 1 child. I quite like glamping but not sure how nice that will be in October!

It's a very fair point about the weather tbh, just looking at Legoland and its quite expensive, I assume with our son only being 4 it will limit what we can do there.

Maybe a cosy cottage on the cost heads off to have a nosy online

We're thinking of Portsmouth with our 5 year old.

Historic dockyard
Gunwharf Keys - cinema, bowling, shops, restaurants
Beach
Pier

I've some fond memories of Weymouth when I was a child, and they had a good sealife center if I remember correctly.

We just came back last from an overnight stay at Drayton Manor - would definitely recommend. The hotel has a nice little playground and The Fat. Controller comes say hi at breakfast.

GlamourSpider · 12/09/2021 13:58

Weymouth sealife centre is pretty good - preorder tickets are cheaper too. The Sealife centre is by some decent parks and SandWorld. A bit further out bowleaze cove is nice; stony beach, cafe and a funfair.

You can do everything at LEGOLAND with a 4 year old. Mine love it.

It will be hell though, so busy! I’d go elsewhere. Center parcs?

PotteringAlong · 12/09/2021 14:33

Drayton manor is fab with a 4 year old - Thomasland! What’s not to love?!

Legoland also fine with a 4 year old but expensive and busy. Could combine legoland with a trip to the snow dome?

PotteringAlong · 12/09/2021 14:34

Not legoland! Combine Drayton manor with a trip to the Snow dome! Sorry Blush

LivingDeadGirlUK · 12/09/2021 15:35

Drayton manor looks fab, I've actually never heard of it before. Would you do two days at the park or is there something else nearby to do one day?

OP posts:
LivingDeadGirlUK · 12/09/2021 15:48

@Createdjustforthis center parks appears to be fully booked!

Have you considered Butlin's? They have some nice accommodation (bayside or west lakes village) and SO MUCH to do.

PotteringAlong · 12/09/2021 17:45

@LivingDeadGirlUK you could fill two days doing Thomasland and the zoo - just rinse and repeat for the second day!

Or, if you wanted to, go here www.snowdome.co.uk/ on day two.

If you are coming from the north down, you could also look at trentham gardens on your way back up. (It’s Stoke way, so you’re not doing it if you’re coming from the south and heading up!).

If you want shopping there’s the new outlet village at Cannock - it has an excellent playground!

I'm in the North West so its a long way to Butlins and I kinda feel if I'm going all that way other places may be nicer! I loved it as a kid though tbf.

Then you could definitely do trentham on your way home on day 2 if you wanted!
