Covid exposure? What would you do?

Feel a bit conflicted and wondering what other people would do. Sorry it’s a bit convoluted.

Saw a friend on Tuesday night for dinner. She came into the house for 5 mins then we went out to a bar and ate outside. We didn’t share any dishes and didn’t spend any more time indoors.

She has been LFTing daily as she sees her elderly grandmother who is CEV.
She called me yesterday and said that that (Saturday) morning she had testing positive on two LFTs for covid 19 and was feeling very unwell.

I felt bad for her but also, selfishly, thought there was at least 48 hours (more like double that) between our dinner and her symptoms so - no need to worry that I’ve been exposed.

EXCEPT-she said “you know it’s funny my eyes have been really sore since Wednesday and I thought it was just from too much time on the computer working...now I wonder if it’s been covid the whole time”.

When I had covid over a year ago, my first symptom was really sore eyes.

If friends sore eyes WERE covid, I would have been with her right as she was about to start to show symptoms.

I’m double vaxxed and have 2 negative LFTs yesterday and today. I have no symptoms of covid. I’m also going for a PCR this morning as a close relative i spend time with is CEV and I want to be extra safe.

The real pisser is I have my first presentation at my new company HO in London tomorrow morning and will be travelling by train from the NW first thing. I’m hoping the PCR will be back in time for me to travel with a negative result in hand (obviously would be isolating if positive).

I’ll try and speak to our company covid officer today but I don’t know if I can reach them on a Sunday and I need to set off to travel at 7am tomorrow- What would other people do if the result wasn’t back? Would you - as the law and guidance says you can and should if you’re double vaxxed - just be carrying on as normal with precautions like masks etc., or would you err on the side of caution and stay at home?

(I know the law says it’s fine for me to carry on as normal with no symptoms and negative LFTs- and I’ll obviously follow company policy- but I just feel a bit weird about it all and wonder what other people think, while I wait for the various info I need).

Does your company have a Covid policy that you can check from home?

Assuming you’ve been WFH a bit that is.

If you do a pcr, do you have to isolate whilst waiting on results?
I’d hold off on seeing your relative and do lft for now.

Does even Tim Spector say "itchy eyes" are a symptom.
I would not be cross at her.
She's doing LFTs daily, she's tried to be responsible.

I would carry on as normal.
Hope you find a resolution you are comfortable with.

Eventually we won't monitor covid in the community any more.

LowlyTheWorm · 12/09/2021 09:03

I’d go. If you did have covid you won’t be the only one on that train.

Kiduknot · 12/09/2021 09:04

I’d feel the same dilemma you do.

Donteatpurplebroccoli · 12/09/2021 09:04

I would carry on as normal but do daily lft’s. It’s a huge mental adjustment I know! my work now say we have to go in even if covid positive people in our household!

VaguelyInteresting · 12/09/2021 09:05

Oh I don’t feel cross at her! Not at all! I feel awful for her- she’s gutted and feels dreadful.

No no need to isolate whilst waiting for PCR results if you’re testing due to contact and are vaccinated. Carry on as normal.

It’s just such a palaver isn’t it- you just don’t want to be the office Patient Zero on your first day there do you?! (I’m WFH 99%, yes).

Go, do the presentation!!

VaguelyInteresting · 12/09/2021 09:17

Thanks all. It’s nuts isn’t it.... the mind-switch from “isolate” to “crack on bab” ... trying to speak to the covid person this morning. I think they’ll probably say “come in” and I’ll just have to divert if a positive test comes in in transit.

I’ll double mask etc. Because I am literally the most worried person about passing on covid ever.

It is really hard to get your head round! I get it but I think you need to worry less, as long as you’re careful snd take sensible precautions then no one can blame you if you do happen to have it and it gets passed on! If it was a colleague you wouldn’t be angry at them in the same circumstances would you? Daffodil obviously if people knowingly have it and go about spreading it that’s different! Hope the presentation goes well!

Autumngoldleaf · 12/09/2021 11:28
