Changing career

I'm just hoping to jot down my thoughts and if people can give some ideas or perspective that would be great.

I've always worked with children/ families and it's something I'm passionate about. The role I have at the moment has no real progression but I do enjoy it.
To progress I have considered retraining to become a health visitor but this would be lengthy and involve training as a nurse which terrifies me! I've considered social work also which interests me a lot however it seems an awful lot of stress and responsibility for the wage.

I have been thinking maybe I could consider retraining as something completely different. I have always had an interest in buildings and property and have had a look into becoming a surveyor. If anyone has any experience in this field your thoughts would be most welcome.

I'm a single parent, ds is 5 so at the moment working part time in a job with relatively low responsibility which pays the bills is something I really am grateful for and not something I'm underestimating at all. I'm just finding myself wondering what to do and feeling like a change could be good.

Very rambly and not entirely sure what I'm asking but if anyone has anything to add please do!!

A change of career is daunting, but go for it! Look into whether you can train on the job rather than doing it yourself. It will be an easier transition salary wise etc.

Check out salary and growth in your preferred sector, plus hours so you can work around children.

I’m training on the side for a future jump. I’m taking my time, as there’s no rush for me, but depends on how you feel about your current job. Remember you can always switch back.

If you think a social worker’s job is stressful, so is health visiting and school nursing. It’s all safeguarding these days.

I work with health visitors at the moment so I'm well aware of that role and the huge pressure they are often under which I think is why it seems less daunting in that way just because I'm more familiar with it. However the route to become one seems more daunting because of the nurse training!
Looking into more options in more detail is a good plan :)
