How to stop the tears

Long story but I'm close to tears constantly. I've started anti d's which will hopefully help but how do I stop the constantly close to tears feeling. The situation I'm in won't change for a while so I need to change my reaction to it if I can. Any advice?

Have you thought about giving in and having a bloody good cry?

Hugs - mumsnetty or not. It's an awful feeling.

Anti-depressants will take a while to kick in.

Have you tried rescue remedy, or Tisserand pulse oils? They can help.

You are not alone.

You are here.

You matter.

Not sure how to stop the feeling, but if you're in a situation where you really don't want to cry then looking up at the ceiling or up at a bright light can help, as can pinching the skin between your thumb and forefinger hard, or pressing your tongue to the roof of your mouth firmly. Had to use all of these in the office when I found out we were all being made redundant before the official announcement and didn't want to break down and invite awkward questions.
Sorry you're feeling this way and hope the antidepressants kick in soon for you Flowers

Take the piss out of yourself. That works with me. “You big baby crying over xxxxx” Alternatively think of one image of moment that always makes you smile. Every time you start to crumble force yourself to see and feel this moment. It’s not instant but gradually you will associate feeling tearful with the happy memory and stop crying.

Empathy here 💐 I've been like this for a while too I just thought I'd got so much on my plate the tears were about feeling overwhelmed.

I usually give in where possible sunglasses work outdoors but if around people I just give myself a talking too - not now, cry later sort of thing?

I hope the ADs work their magic soon!

Make sure you rest, it’s always worse when exhausted , just let rest go housework etc it’s you who needs the care at this time. Hugs.

I watch my favourite comedy show when I'm feeling sad

  1. schedule a really good cry. Be self indulgent and watch a sad film and just let it out
  2. meditation (there are guided ones on Netflix that are great to start off) I find it really helps to centre yourself, and get that calm feeling. Helps me climb off "the edge"
