If I'm at an event in the USA and the national anthem is played, should non-americans like me put their hand on their heart too?

We travel to America regularly. We never do it.

Why would you?

Hellocatshome · 11/09/2021 17:40

No just stand respectfully like you would do when any national anthem is played.

I lived (as a non-American) in America for a number of years and had to go to events (scouts etc) with DC where the kids and parents were expected to sing the anthem, say the pledge of allegiance etc. I just stood with everyone else, but didn't sing/say the pledge (because that would be odd), and it seemed like a good compromise.

Non American but lived there for years and no I wouldn’t. My Canadian boss who is actually now a citizen doesn’t either. But obviously stand up, be respectful, if you’re a wearing a hat (which you probably aren’t if you’re not an American) then take it off.
