How are different age groups taught about this, and at what age do you show children footage of the crashes and towers collapsing etc?

Are there rules about this in the NC?

Thank you

I hope they handle it with due sensitivity and for senior schools only.

I sat through the attack while running a conference in the US. We had people in clinical shock, one lady whose 5yo called her and asked her if she was in heaven because she'd seen her onto a plane the evening before and didn't understand. I still struggle with it.
I would remove my ds from school rather than have him see the falling man and listen to some of the phone calls.

I have been told about a class with ages 8 - 10 year olds being shown the live footage of one of the planes going in and the reaction of people watching it, the collapsing buildings, the planes, rescuers searching for bodies. things were falling from buildings, but the children were not aware it was a body but they did say everyone was very upset about what they saw. does this sound massively inappropriate or is it just me?

I teach secondary and it usually comes up in PSHE etc. With yr7 I would show a still photo of the towers but not actual footage. I've explained it to my own primary aged children but not shown them footage. It's just not really necessary. There are no specific rules as such but all teachers are given safeguarding training and should be mindful of appropriate content. I teach RS so deal with awkward topics all the time but some colleagues who usually teach maths or French for example find it difficult.

What connection do you have to this class, why are you asking?

Personally I didn't teach about it today because - and this sounds harsh - I don't have that much interest in it. I think topics like that need to be covered by the right person at the right time.

Can someone help spread the word that it is the American way of shortening the date and it didn’t happen in November. My students all start commenting about it at the wrong time of year 🙈

thank you that is really helpful. i have checked the us guidelines and they say primary children should be taught about respectful remembrance and that sort of thing only
