Pregnant after miscarriage - how long did it take you?

I know this is a question much like how long is a piece of string, however I am currently googling like crazy and thought I'd ask here.

Yesterday I had a MVA - surgical removal of my missed miscarriage under local anesthetic. I should be coming up to nine weeks but it seems the pregnancy (baby/fetus/does anyone know what the correct wording is?) Ended around six weeks. Miscarriage never came so the MVA removed everything.

DH and I are coming to terms with this and have spoken a lot over the past hellish two weeks while we waited for things to happen. We're quite sure we want to get pregnant again as soon as we can. I'm grieving more for the loss of the future plans and such rather than this pregnancy (I hope that makes sense) and I think the best thing I can do to help me move on is to actively try to conceive again.

And so my question, how long did it take you to conceive after a miscarriage? Does it matter that it's been a missed miscarriage? It's early days but we have been so lucky in the sense that it only took us about four months to conceive our DD and only two to conceive this time. It would be so nice to at least have Christmas and start the new year knowing that our family is growing rather than looking at my planned due date and feeling emptiness and loss.

Sorry for all the rambling. I guess my head is still a bit all over the place.

@Onebabyandamadcat hi. I just had a MVA yesterday and we want to start ttc as soon as we can but my periods are really irregular. Have you had any luck?

Hi @RRolo08 sorry I've just seen this. We had an awful year that year. Fell pregnant six weeks after my MVA only to lose it again and need another MVA in December. My Dr ran a lot of blood tests but nothing showed - it was just bad luck. We then paused for a few months as I had just started a new job and to be honest I needed time to come to terms with the losses. However after trying for two months we fell pregnant in the may and I now have a 7 month old DD. I took low dose aspirin as soon as I got my positive test with that one. The midwife was supportive when I told her that I was doing that and said it couldn't hurt. With DD2 I had low paap a which is an indication that your placenta isn't working perfectly (it was still fine) and I wonder if that might have been in issue with the previous pregnancies but I'll never know.

Be kind to yourself and take time to grieve and work through your emotions and remember your DP has also experienced a loss too. I hope you have better luck soon

@Onebabyandamadcat congratulations on your little one. The second time you got pregnant and miscarried, did you wait for a period in between? Mine are so irregular I wouldn't know when I was ovulating anyway so not sure when ttc. Do you know when about you ovulated after your MVA's? X

@Rolo08 it's so hard when you hear so many people saying they fell again pretty much straight away. I miscarried last sept at 12 weeks, finally got my bfp in May, I'm now 22 weeks! I was told to wait for a negative test before trying but I didn't have any medical intervention, my MC was all natural. Good luck!

I waited for a period only so I could date the pregnancy. I was told that as soon as I got a negative test I could try again. I never used ovulation tests - just went by discharge and my fairly regular cycle but I think it was roughly two weeks later - my body never skipped a beat

@Onebabyandamadcat roughly 2 weeks after the MVA that you got your period or ovulated? It's been a week for me now but I got my negative a few days after the MVA. How was your bleeding after it? X

Onebabyandamadcat · 01/09/2023 11:10

I would've ovulated roughly two weeks later. It was like the MVA was my period. My bleeding after the procedure was fairly small both times - a couple of days I think

@Onebabyandamadcat my bleeding stopped a day after the MVA then I had a really weird period like bleed a couple of days later. I wonder if that was similar to yours x
