got wrong item via courier

So I ordered an expensive health supplement and they've sent me totally the wrong item!

I messaged them and now they say I have to return it and enclose a pre-paid label via email?

Which means to say I have to print this using printing ink (which is expensive anyway), take to post office or arrange for Hermes to collect it, and I'm slightly irritated.

I don't think I should keep it but it was their mistake right? And barely a word of apology... Am I right in feeling annoyed or not?

What is it you would have liked them to have done? Very annoying but as long as they aren't asking you to cover postage I'm not sure how else you expect to return it?

Not sure but I'm just irritated that I have to send this out, use my printer paper and ink and take time to arrange this.

Hardly a word of apology.

Not hard to send the correct item out either. Just shows they're rushing and not paying attention so I won't be using them again.

It's me running around doing this which I'm pissed off about.

Are you asking for the legal position? If so, it's not legally a mistake - it doesn't count as unsolicited goods, as you did order from them, even if they then delivered the wrong thing. So you can either agree a cost with them for the item you've got, or make it available for collection.

Strictly speaking you could insist that they arrange someone to collect it, but that's likely to cause inconvenience if you don't know when they're coming, and you'd have a legal responsibility to look after it.

It's irritating, sure, but resolvable.

There's no point in moaning if you don't know what you'd like them to do to fix it.
You obviously have some idea what you want them to do as they have given you a solution but you're not happy with that.

well so far I've printed off a label which I wasn't happy about. That was the wrong one anyway as they expected me to schlep up to Post Office!

I would like them to have delivered the correct item but hey I'm in the wrong for being irritated and have to sort this out but...never mind.

It’s rubbish they’ve sent the wrong item and that’d piss me off but I’m assuming you want them to tell you to keep the wrong item as a sorry and send you the right item? Some companies wound do that and others are dead against it

Actually I wasn't expecting to keep the item at all.

It's not even suitable for me as it's a Well Man supplement!

I feel like it’s a really minor irritation which is so tiny in the grand scheme of things and you won’t even remember in a year

Stuff like this happens. Yes it’s annoying but that’s life. Moaning about the cost of printing the label is a bit ridiculous, it cost you, what 0.5p?

Mariell · 08/09/2021 17:04

I have had this happen and I say I don’t have a printer so they are then obliged to send me a prepaid label and give me 30 days to return the item as I tell them I cannot always leave the house and will return it when I am able to do so.

careerchangeperhaps · 08/09/2021 17:04

Can you not ask them to send a printed label in the post if you're that concerned about using your own paper and ink which will cost a few pence at most? I'm sure they'd happily oblige: most companies will assume you want to get this sorted ASAP hence emailing a label rather than you having to wait for one to arrive by post and causing further delay.

Likewise, if you're home all day, ask them to arrange collection. Again, most people would probably rather not wait in all day to have a packet collected when there's a strong possibility that they'd be passing the post office when going about their normal daily business anyway. If collection suits you better, just ask.

My point is:-

It’s my birthday

I didn’t mention it in original post but printer is very glitchy.

It was just the tone of their email that got to me - really quick and not even that bothered! I mean I’m getting a replacement of what I ordered in the post from them but I certainly won’t use them again due to messing up my order and not a great response to me as a customer.

I only ordered it through them as eg out of stock at Holland and Barrett and I know why I use a high street brand normally!

Yeah it costs me a small amount but the ink and paper do add up especially when you live by yourself.

Sorry I have to explain that printing I don’t do much unless I need to do so!

I rarely use a post office these days unless I have to. Get online shopping delivered and top ups from Sainsbury’s but rarely go to the post office as have 2 immune compromised health conditions. Even the post offices I do use are the quieter ones I go to. Certainly not in everyday life not since pandemic started.
