Cleaner - would this annoy you

I have a cleaner who comes once a week. (Before anyone tells me I should do my own cleaning, I do lots of it! But I need some help as a working lone parent.)

Because of WFH and her availability, she comes when I am at home. She has only been coming for a few weeks but I have noticed that she is on her phone speaking to friends/family for half the time she is here. It’s slightly disruptive (small house) and also I am not sure how focused she is…. her cleaning is ok but she never does anything extra and seems to always leave a bit early. But I don’t feel I can raise those issues with her.

Wound this annoy you?

Yes it would. you are paying her. .She can speak to friends and family in her own time

As an ex cleaner, thats not on. The most i would do would put my headphones on for music. Does she charge by the hour? If so she should be working the full hours. You factor travelling between jobs when deciding your pricing.

It's totally unprofessional, she should be working, not talking. The fact that she does this with you in the home makes me think she's quite daft. I would be getting a new cleaner.

As a cleaner myself. No. That is not on. I never answer my phone when I am in someone’s house. Even more so if they are working. Find another cleaner

MrsKDB · 08/09/2021 17:20

No way! Get a new cleaner.

CatalinaCasesolver · 08/09/2021 17:25

I think you have my ex cleaner

Herecomesthesun70 · 08/09/2021 18:08

Does she stop cleaning to chat?

BeaucoupFish · 08/09/2021 18:11

As long as she’s cleaning and talking hands free I think that is okay but the talking could be distracting if you are concentrating

pinkyredrose · 08/09/2021 18:14

But I don’t feel I can raise those issues with her

Why on earth not?

InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest · 08/09/2021 18:17

You must have my ex-cleaner!!!!

Mariell · 08/09/2021 18:17

I would not allow that. Phone off or no job.

2bazookas · 08/09/2021 18:24

Of course you tell her. Either verbally or leave a note where she can't miss it.

"Would you mind turning off your phone while you're here so you can focus on your work? Private phone calls are for your own time. Thanks."

GoldGazelle · 08/09/2021 18:29

Sounds like my cleaner who we are considering letting go.

Headphones in, talks to friends. Leaves early. Cleans just enough for it to look OK but doesn't really do any thorough cleaning when you really look. Paid her and she didn't come one week while we are on holiday despite taking the money.

I find it awkward talking about it to her too.

thelegohooverer · 08/09/2021 19:43

As long as she’s using handsfree I really don’t understand why it’s an issue. Genuinely puzzled that so many people feel strongly about this.

Work not being a great standard or leaving early are things I’d bring up.
