Tesco self-scan: anyone else stuck in an endless loop of service checks?

I've been randomly selected for a service check on my last seven visits, randomly I'm told.
There's never been an issue and I'm spending in my usual pattern, not buying anything out of the ordinary.
I'm told it's all managed by head office, and there's no point talking to customer services.

Today was the final straw for me using self-scan. Over the dozen times we have used it, thinking it would be a quicker and easier way to shop, we have managed to get out the door ONCE without having our shopping checked. We spend up to £200 a week on groceries, so each time the assistant has to scan 35 items... Unless you genuinely miss an item like we did today. We put 2 pork fillets in the bag but only 1 scanned... Our fault, I know! So ALL groceries were scanned. This is too time-consuming.

Our shops are usually around £250 and we never have a problem but a couple of times a month it's around £350 and then we got selected and they need to check 75 items. If that's the case we just go through the staffed checkout instead to save the bother.
