I live and work in a rural area. There's a conference in London mid Oct. My boss has asked me to go. I dont want to travel to and mix with shed loads of people on the train and tube (only way of getting there quickly) it will be morning rush hour and evening when I leave.

Im hardly going out now as it is and to go to London is making me feel really uneasy. I need to talk to him about this I know but Im so worried incase he makes me go

it was reported yesterday that public transport use was back to pre pandemic levels.

Where was that? The BBC said it was the busiest it had been since the beginning of the first lockdown in March 2020, not that it was back to pre-lockdown levels.

Numbers are still far behind the pre-pandemic highs; nearly twice as many passengers used London Underground before the national lockdown. BBC

Are the conference organisers offering a zoom option as well? You can then tell your boss anxiety prevents you from travelling but you won't miss the content because you can go virtually.

OP millions of people live, work and travel in London every day. They have not all been struck down by Covid. I think you are exaggerating the risk.

If you’re happy to go shopping, socialising or any other mingling type of ‘going out’ then I think you’re being unreasonable to refuse to travel for work.

If you are absolutely not going anywhere, still having all you shopping delivered and still working from home then YANBU to refuse.

Only you know if you are still in your own lockdown or not.

If you’re double vaccinated I presume you had the jab to protect you from Covid. If you’re still not meeting or mixing after having the vaccine, then maybe you need someone to talk to. Being so introverted isn’t normal or healthy.

If you're happy to look pathetic, give up any chance of promotion and ruin that annual bonus you're working towards, then go ahead and stay at home.

Ldnmum7, that's a bit harsh.
