Period pants at school

13 year old DD has just started and I think period pants may be the way forward for her. She is a young 13 and isn't coping well with the whole thing and I think period pants will be easier at school.

I'm looking at the Primark ones and they recommend rinsing rather than soaking, but I'm not sure DD will cope with the rinsing at the moment. If she puts them in a bucket with cold water at the end of the school day and I do a machine wash each evening, will that be ok rather than rinsing? She also stays late at school some evenings for sport etc so may need to change during the school day. Can used period pants be stored in a waterproof bag until the end of the day? Advice gratefully received!

We have modi bodi. They are not cheap but they are the only ones we have found that last for a whole day. Both my DD’s (13 and 15) use them. Both do dance after school plus PE and no leaks at all.

I don’t bother rinsing them anymore. Just put them straight in the wash at 30 degrees.

The best I've tried are honour your flow. They are the only things (night time maxi) that allowed me to sleep through the night-before I had to get up to change & usually still bled through pads & towels onto the sheets

vote here for period pants - particularly Modibodi. They are LIFE CHANGING!!!! They technically don't need any other form of protection but my daughter had the boy pant style and still wore a pad for extra protection. It also meant that if she didn't have the opportunity to change, it didn't matter (she didn't want any friends to know). Honestly / they're expensive but I'd pay double if I had to - they are that great! I also recommend the swimming bottoms. Never bother rinsing, just Chuck them in a wash as normal, just no softener.

I have used The Pad Lady on Etsy, she will make them a custom shape/size if you find you can't get a good fit.

I second another poster who said the pants and pads take a while to dry, so it’s good to have a sizeable supply. It makes a more expensive outlay, but I bought mine from Thinx in the States when they weren’t out here years ago and they are still going strong - even though they are only supposed to work for a certain amount of washes (I haven’t found that at all). Not only have I saved money in the long run, but also all the plastic waste.

I wish they’d existed when I was a teenager!

I have used reusable sanitary stuff for at least 15 years (Ds2 was in reusable nappies) and I use period pants. Never rinsed or soaked any of them. You can save them all up and rinse them in the washing machine but mine have always gone in with a bathroom towel wash, no fabric softner.

Period pants are life changing, especially for night use. I have Cheeky wipes as the absorbent layer goes from the front waistband all the way to the back waistband, most period pants have an absorbent layer the size of a pad.

I find Modibodi really good absorbency wise but they have developed holes unfortunately!
