Pam for scrambled eggs

Boring but posting for traffic. Best pan for scrambled eggs which don’t result in the whole pan being covered in a thin layer of egg?!

Treated myself to a Robert Welch during lockdown and it’s not doing the trick. Cheap sainsburys pan the same. I eat a lot of scrambled egg!

I use my Tefal non stick.

IngridTails · 06/09/2021 21:41

I have one pan for making scrambled eggs and NOTHING else is allowed to be cooked in it.

ilovetomatoes · 06/09/2021 22:16

@deste yes that’s how I do it but doesn’t help. I’ve been adding more butter which is delicious but probably part of the reason for my expanding waistline……

I just use my cheap pans and never seem to have any sticking residue. I used to work with a guy who used the office microwave for his scrambled eggs….the smell!!! 🤮

stripedbananas · 06/09/2021 22:24

Tefal nonstick

DaxtheDestroyer · 06/09/2021 22:27

I have Scoville never stick pans too, they're excellent.
I cook scrambled eggs hot and fast though, 30 seconds max and they are done. If you do low and slow, how long do they take? I like creamy just-done eggs, willing to experiment for perfect ones!

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 06/09/2021 22:30

Pam for poached eggs, Fenella for fried, Savannah for scrambled.

BertieBotts · 06/09/2021 22:32

I can't get the hang of this either. It drives me nuts. I can do them in the wok and they don't stick, but it doesn't taste the same. I can do them the way I like then in a pan but it always ends up with a burnt crust. I never got that as a teenager making them under my mum's supervision but I don't know what I did differently. I've tried cheap pans, expensive, non stick, stainless steel, thick bottom, thin, oil, butter, fast, slow, hot, medium, taking them off before they're done. No luck.

A woman I used to care for had her pan labelled. I knew she liked me when I was allowed to make scrambled eggs as she tutted "everyone else wants to use the microwave and they are NOT the same" Grin
ilovetomatoes · 06/09/2021 22:45

@NotMyCat that’s so cute! And I agree with her Grin

@DaxtheDestroyer around 7-10 mins. I did another version from the guy who owns The French Laundry which took about 25 mins but my husband said they were “claggy” and refused to eat them. Although I thought they were really good!

She was - she said they were the nicest ones she had in years and I made her a napkin fan and she kept it 🥺

Mossstitch · 06/09/2021 23:24

Another one for scoville, I bought one on sale in asda and its now called 'the egg pan', looks like a mini wok shape so also ideal for egg fried rice. Quick wipe with kitchen roll after use is all it needs!

DramaAlpaca · 06/09/2021 23:27

@deste

I melt butter in the non stick pan first and that seems to work. Cook long and slow, don’t let the eggs overheat.
This is my method too. Long and slow, and stir all the time. Then it doesn't stick.
MountainDweller · 06/09/2021 23:31

I have a tefal non stick saucepan that I only use for scrambled eggs and white sauce, so it's non-stick coating is pretty pristine! I melt a knob of butter in the pan before adding the eggs, cook them slowly and take them off the heat while I butter the toast because they can turn from creamy to rubbery in seconds! Doesn't sound like you need tips though. I just soak the pan but will be trying the heating at the end technique now!

TenPenceMix · 06/09/2021 23:33

Turn off the heat while they still look 'wet'-best tip I received- really works. And scovile pans!

PickAChew · 06/09/2021 23:34

Just a decent non stick. Anything that cooks on flakes off. Only ever use that pan for eggs, though.

Ceramic pans are crap for eggs, I've found.

PickAChew · 06/09/2021 23:37

I have a neverstick pan and hate it. Made akoori in it and had to soak it and scrub it - it was that or bin it.

NoYOUbekind · 06/09/2021 23:40

Take it off the heat when the eggs are still wet then give a really good final stir - that will lift all the remaining egg out of the hot pan.

AlwaysLatte · 06/09/2021 23:43

I usually do them in a small non stick pan in a small amount of butter over another pan of boiling water. Less direct heat so they don't stick.

Whitefire · 06/09/2021 23:51

I use one that has a white inside, I think it was just from Sainsbury's, it's shiny, so loos very different to the usual non stick pan.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/09/2021 00:37

Scoville pan

JovialNickname · 07/09/2021 01:42

I read this thinking Pam from Gavin and Stacey! Maybe put a bit of ham in that scrambled egg

weegiemum · 07/09/2021 02:06

I've got a non stick pan that was about £9 in Tesco and it makes great scrambled eggs.
