Hi my DD is currently in her 2nd year of A levels and looking at the options for university/apprenticeship for training to be an RVN.
She's leaning towards the uni route, and looking at work experience and the possibility of an apprenticeship (though we can't seem to find any advertised or what the likelihood of one being available in our area is at the moment)
We've approached all the veterinary surgeries in the area about work experience and the possibility of an apprenticeship being available once she's finished college, and volunteering on an ongoing basis and got nothing back.
She needs at minimum 10 days work experience for university, but we're really struggling to find anyone that will facilitate this, and nothing about apprenticeship either.
I've never been to university, all this is new to me and she's not getting a lot through college (well that's what she tells me 🤔) and I need some advice on how to put my foot up her arse help her with this.
Is anyone training to be a vet nurse, or is one and can offer any advice at all?
I realise the lack of response to date is likely to be covid related, and that vets are busy people working under strained conditions at the moment and taking on a work experience student isn't high on their priorities right now.
Anyone have any tips or advice? Is the university or apprenticeship pathway deemed more preferred by prospective employers?
Many thanks.
