How far are you willing to travel for a day out?

I love in the countryside with lots of windy roads and very poor public transport links.

I wonder whether my thinking is skewed due to the windy roads. But for a typical day out with the kids, say on a normal weekend I am happy to drive up to 45 mins in the car to a destination... this is approx 15 miles due to the roads. So I’d say less than 20 miles is my norm.

Anything more than that would be a special occasion/very rare. Bit anything more than 30 miles I would want to be stopping over!

To add 45 minutes could get you about 5 miles during a busy spell where I live. It regularly takes over an hour to get to where dc ride which is around 7 miles away due to the time of day and the roads we need to use

I will drive 2 or so hrs each way to visit somewhere for the day. But, as I've got older, I'm less keen.

I regularly used to drive Bedford to Calais to go shopping for the day. Left at 9am after dropping kids at school and was home by 9pm.

An hour or so each way fairly often, two to two and a half hours each way once or twice a year.

Most things I could want to be fair are within 45 minutes.

The furthest we have gone is 39 miles, which was to a zoo a couple of weeks ago!

DH hated the windy and small country roads so if it involved lots of them, he wouldn't do it. But luckily they were only 10% of the drive so he put up with it.

We were down a tiny road with no space to pull up either side, and we came face to face with a tractor. He had to reverse and we eventually came upon a driveway which he went in and it was awful. Not going down that road again haha!

Depends on the day out, and the time of year.
We'll drive further for a day out in summer, as it's still light for the journey home.

2 hours or thereabouts is fine for a trip to visit family, or to visit the seaside, returning the same day.
