My 7 year old dd who had only just turned 7 has started to have sweaty armpits and on occasion smelly. Firstly is this normal and also on top of better hygiene will she need some sort of deodorant now, if so which?

I volunteer in a primary school. and some 7 year olds do smell a bit. I would worry, if it were my DC, that they were going to get teased about it. So, I would make sure they had a shower before school every day, clean shirt every day and yes, probably, deodorant. I don't know if there is one aimed at youngsters though.

Moo goo natural deodorant is great. My stinky 10 year old started using it at the beginning of the summer and it stops him smelling all day with no nasty chemicals.

Omg I was just wondering about this earlier and whether to post. My 7yo is starting to smell and his sheets in particular are putrid. He’s a real sweaty Betty at night and his pits occasionally pong.

Use real soap to wash the pits of doom! Also known as the antisocials in this house

Seriously though it helps mine have been way better since I switched out the dove/bodywash and used a bar of real soap less smelly overall

Thank you for this I feel so relieved. I'm not prepared for this level of growing up, just want her to stay young Confused

My eldest was smelly when the hormones first kicked in and nothing worked and we tried a lot.
My friend though, says her smelly teenager is having joy with an all natural product called Wild.

KidsAreMean · 04/09/2021 21:41

Yes, my DD started smelling early. The advice I got here was to log it with the doctor in case there were other signs of precocious puberty because they won't do anything for 6 months. DD has a check up every year.

She uses a sure deodorant (the one pink one with the prettiest label 🙄) and I make sure she doesn't have any polyester tops.

MissM2912 · 04/09/2021 21:43

We use soft and gentle roll on. No issues and lots of baths/ showers.

Happy36 · 04/09/2021 21:47

You may need to spray a bit of vinegar on armpits of her clothes and leave to soak a couple of hours before washing to get out the sweaty smell.

liveforsummer · 04/09/2021 21:48

My 8 year old is the same. It's been a surprise as dd1 is nearly 12 and it only started since she turned 11. I still don't think it's ridiculously early though. I just remind her constantly to wash well under her arms and also add feet in to not draw attention to one thing. I work with a 5 year old with noticeable BO. She's very tall/ grown up looking for her age but also diabetic which I'm not sure if that's a factor?!

Boombadoom · 04/09/2021 21:50

I use natural deodorant from the natural deodorant company, the lemon or Orange are my fave. Work way better than mitchums! Not an anti though so will still be damp.

Daydrambeliever · 04/09/2021 21:51

Wee ones shouldn't use anti-perspirants, especially those with aluminium. My daughter uses this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Love-Beauty-Planet-Aluminium-Protection/dp/B086CHY9JW/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?dchild=1&crid=19IWPH3G567YI&keywords=natural+deodorant+for+women&sprefix=natural+&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1630788560&sr=8-15

And I use Bionsen which would also be totally fine.

Spongeboob · 04/09/2021 21:54

Shower in the morning, washing armpits with bar soap then roll on deodorant.

Daydrambeliever · 04/09/2021 21:55

....based on no scientific knowl she except that I think if we sweat it cos we're meant to. 😁

Daydrambeliever · 04/09/2021 21:56

...and the deodorant I linked above doesn't cost £8 in Sainsbury's. It's about £2.

Blendabrethin · 04/09/2021 21:56

I was really suprised when my 7 year old dd staryed having adult smelling armpits too. I did not expect this so young - I'm sure I was around 10 when I first started uaing deoderant.

Anyway, I'm watching thos thread with interest as so far I have neen letting her use simple roll an for sensitive skun, which she finds itchy. All of the natural or aluminium free deoderants were either super expensive or stuff I know from experience doesn't work e.g. pitrock.

Why on earth not? The ones with aluminium are the only ones which work!
