Baby brain or something more sinister?

I haven’t felt right since my DS2 was born a year ago in terms of my clarity of thought. He didn’t sleep well for the first 8 months so I know I might be suffering from sleep deprivation but can anyone read the following and tell me if this is normal baby brain?

  • Mixing words up in a sentence by switching them round. Happens multiple times a day and I’ll say something like ‘its quick to be good’ rather than ‘it’s good to be quick’
  • Forgetting common words or making them up, I forgot the word fairytale today and was saying story tale. This agains happens daily.
  • Constant brain fog and feeling spaced out.
  • Awful memory of what people have said, for example given instructions.

It’s like my mind has dumbed down and I can’t join the dots anymore or think strategically.

I go back to work this week and I just don’t know how I’m going to cope as my mind isn’t working how it used to Blush

I’m also having weird other things like my face burning and tingling randomly (once a month) and I’m dizzy sometimes. I’m scared it’s part of something bigger and more sinister. I’m in the middle of moving house so I’m waiting to see the GP until I’ve moved but just looking for reassurance…. Has anyone else had this?

Could be loads of things - I had bad brain fog with vit D deficiency for example. Anaemia maybe. Thyroid. All things that are quite common after childbirth (am not a Dr, but things friends had).
I'd go to GP but not be worried

Go to the Gp. But if it reassures you I have had all those things since having kids, the mixing up words notably, and I am still here so far! I don't know how old you are but I experienced hormonal dizziness aged around 40. I had blood tests and am low in vitamin D so take a supplement but I also take a multivitamin which does help, as does sleep.

I think when you go back to work and have to start engaging brain more you may find some of it starts to ease off but go and see your GP (no need to wait until you have moved) just incase it's something more than baby brain fog.

I experienced that also on my maternity leave along with a bad fatigue and it turned out to be my thyroid and an autoimmune disorder both seemingly triggered by my pregnancy and birth. GP will do bloods and figure it out for you.

This could be a type of focal onset seizure (epilepsy). I know that might sound dramatic but I've recently been diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy myself and a lot of what you said in the first half applies to me too...the skin sensations can be caused by seizure activity in a different part of the brain so I would definitely mention this to your GP, hopefully to rule it out x

My tingling face & dizziness was low B12/folate
Brain fog was a combination of hypothyroidism & vitamin D deficiency.

How long until you move? If it’s going to be several weeks then maybe see the GP before the move.
