Hi everyone !

Was wondering if anyone could help.. I want to get organised for my LO weaning before my mat leave pay goes down, what appliances are the best to buy? Is the mamas and papas baby cook range worth the money? I’m not too clued up with that to get?

A cheap hand blender is all that we bought. Depending on what age they are they won't be having mushed up food for long and finger foods should be introduced from 6 months anyway

High chair, bibs, plastic plates / bowels cutlery. That’s about it really. Maybe a cheap shower curtain if you want to protect your floor.

The Baby Led Weaning book by Gill Rapely is very good.

*bowls, not bowels sorry Shock

They're all just gimmicks, you don't need any appliances for weaning. If you're doing purées you'll need some spoons and if you're making your own purées you'll need a blender but it doesn't need to be a special baby one.

I got a small tommee tippee blender from Argos for £25. Have been using it for months and it's come in very handy.

Quite compact so can bring it when DD is staying with GPs. It's a bit loud but does the job and worth the money in my opinion.

IKEA for bowls etc - got a pack of 6 for £1.50 I think ? In any case it was a cheap price and got matching plates, cups and cutlery.

You don't need anything much. Some bibs (the coverall style ones are great and will save you a lot of laundry!), a high chair (the IKEA cheapo one is brilliant), some sort of cheap plastic baby cup with handles they can grip easily, a non smashable bowl and plate (either basic plastic ones or those suction cup ones that stick to the table and can't be upended on the floor as easily), maybe some rubber weaning spoons that are gentler on baby gums than metal teaspoons. A basic blender if doing purées, and some basic IKEA-style Tupperware if you want to batch cook. I second the Rapley book recommendation above (easily available second hand or from the library). You definitely don't need to spend much.

Thankyou everyone! I’m glad I posted as I was going out tomorrow to buy things! I already have a hand held blender just need to get the high chair, cutlery, bowls and Tupperware and the big bibs! Xxx
