Which hairbrush do you use? Need recommendations

Hi all. So I have very thick, wavy, dark brunette (nearly black) hair naturally. I REALLY need hairbrush recommendations!!! My hair is just past my shoulders and the longest I have grown it in years. It is starting to matt underneath, even though I am brushing. I recently got it cut but I'm obviously not reaching where the matt is. I'm blaming my hairbrush which is basically a knock off tangle teezer. Please let me know your recommendations as I really don't want my hair to be matting. I comb through it in the shower when doing my conditioner but I really don't want to be using a comb to brush my hair unless in the shower.

Agree that a detangler is a good option. Also the wet/ dry brushes as they can be used on errr wet and dry hair and are good for knots.

Mason Pearson oval paddle brushes are great. Expensive but will last you a lifetime.

I have thick hair that is slightly wavy/bushy. It always gets matty/tangly underneath, at the back of my neck. I nearly always wear it tied back because if I wear it loose, even if I straighten it it will be tangly in an hour or 2.

I use a Tangle Tamer on my daughters hair which is shin length and that works brilliantly. We had the cheaper version but that got tossed aside when I bought the better version for her hair.

I use either the tangle tamer or a Wet Brush Pro. My hair is waist length and does that matted bit that you mentioned and both those brushes get rid of it pretty painlessly.

Tangle teezer - I’ll never use anything else!

I've bought a Denman brush. I was using a pound shop tangle teaser but the bristles bent so wasn't doing a thing. I also used pound shop paddle brushes put it would always fall apart surprise surprise! however my hair is horrible thin straggly straight hair. Dd has thicker straight hair and she seems to like the Denman.

My hair is nearly to my waist due to Covid & being housebound, I use the Head Jog mane tamer brush for detangling £8.99 from Amazon.

I have very thick hair with a natural wave and swear by a paddle brush.

I also use a couple of drops of serum when my hair is wet. L'oreal used to do one, now I use John Frieda defrizz serum.

If you like to bring the wave under control I swear by one of these - a blowdry clamp brush - when blowdrying (just an example). DM bought me one about a decade ago on a whim and I have used it ever since.

To be honest the best for defrizzing for me is to go full out and straighten it. The other good investment was the highest power hairdryer wattage I could find.

My hair sounds very similar to yours and I find tangle tweezers (and their knock offs) utterly useless - they just skim over the surface of my hair and don't get down to the knots and tangles. My favourite brushes have always been paddle brushes. My current one has bamboo bristles but I've had Aveeda ones with plastic bristles that have been excellent too.

HardStareBear · 03/09/2021 05:23

This is the Aveda one. Worth every penny. m.aveda.co.uk/product/17775/16651/styling/brush/aveda-wooden-paddle-brush#/shade/brush
