If you say that, where are you from? I'd say it while gesturing to indicate the size of something. Lived in Staffordshire half my life, the other half in Oxfordshire. DP also Midlander, says he's never heard anyone else say it. Good friend of mine says it too; she's from Devon but also lived in Oxfordshire for twenty years. Humour me, MNers, and tell me whether you recognise the phrase/if you say it too/where you're from?

Born in NI, but grew up in Yorkshire, with lots of relatives from NI here. I have definitely heard it.

Not sure if I picked up from Irish family, or if its something that's said alot in this area though.

LimeRedBanana · 02/09/2021 05:44

I’m in NZ. Well recognised here.

Sweetpea1532 · 02/09/2021 05:45

Southern US..said usually by country folk

dizzydizzydizzy · 02/09/2021 05:48

My dad used to say it. He grew up on Gloucestershire and then lived
In rhe London area all his adult life

garlictwist · 02/09/2021 06:56

I don't think it's a regional expression, I think it's used everywhere.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 02/09/2021 06:58

Haven't heard it in years, but a friend from the Midlands used to use it a lot.

Haywirecity · 02/09/2021 07:00

Lancashire. We say it here.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/09/2021 07:05

We don't use it much in Ireland, but I've seeing people say it on American tv all my life.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 02/09/2021 07:07

I'm from cumbria and we say it here 😊

ImInStealthMode · 02/09/2021 07:11

From Yorkshire and familiar with the 'yay big'.

BlueThursday · 02/09/2021 07:14

Not really

Here in Glasgow it’s either gigantic or a baw hair for the extremes of size

Secretroses · 02/09/2021 07:15

I was raised in Surrey and I say it!

OoglyMoogly · 02/09/2021 09:00

I say it. Brought up in East London.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 02/09/2021 09:02

About yay high, Kent

girlmom21 · 02/09/2021 09:03

I'm from the Midlands and have heard it used a lot but read it in a Yorkshire accent for some reason Grin

I don't think it's regional.

mbosnz · 02/09/2021 09:42

Yup.

From NZ.

SedentaryCat · 02/09/2021 09:58

Yes. (Also 'yay high')

Oxfordshire born and bred.

ShowOfHands · 02/09/2021 10:03

It isn't regional to my knowledge. It's just colloquial and used across many countries.

DanceForeverUnderTheLights · 02/09/2021 10:42

That's interesting, I'm from Wales and I say it, but couldn't think of anyone else in my family who did. It's possible I picked it up when I lived in Australia.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 02/09/2021 10:46

Yup. London.

Oldraver · 02/09/2021 10:48

I recognise the phrase and I'm from Derby originally but now West Oxfordshire

I have found there are quite a few ways of talking here from the posh to erm well not so 🤣

LizBennet · 02/09/2021 11:13

@dreamingbohemian

We say it in New York!
I was going to say, Joey says it in an episode of Friends. I always thought it was a British term.
LavendulaAngustifolia · 02/09/2021 11:51

JustJoinedRightNow · 02/09/2021 12:18
