What can I get my five year old son on my wedding day?

I'm marrying the father of my children (long term relationship, middle aged wedding rather than when we were younger for many reasons).

I'm looking at rings online and I suddenly thought my daughter would love a ring too, something she can wear occasionally and keep as a momento of the day. She'll be 9, she loves pearls, I've seen some cute ones online for around £25.

However I also have a son who'll be 5, and I don't think he'd love a ring so much. However I have no ideas what an equivalent present might be that he'd look back on fondly when he's older.

Any ideas?

Might sound a bit strange...
A hip flask. Engraved with his name... filled with his favourite juice for the day.
Then, when he's an adult, it could be used properly.

Cuff links?

Cuff links, tie pin? Or perhaps just a toy or collectible

How long will a ring that fits at 9 fit her fingers?

What about a watch for DS?

I'd have thought a 9 year old would outgrow a ring very quickly. Might a necklace be better?

(I have no suggestions for your son)!

Ninjawannabee · 01/09/2021 21:05

You're right about the ring, I figured maybe it would be a bit big at 9 then fit her little finger when she's an adult?! Maybe a necklace would be better or poss a set of both so she can keep the ring as a keepsake and wear the necklace

The boy... I did think about cuff links but it would be so long until he can wear them? Ditto hip flask Wink thanks for the ideas though. Keep them coming!

Or could happily commit to resizing the ring whenever needed

If you want something they will appreciate as an adult, you could get them each a silver photo frame or silver candle stick?

or a keepsake teddy bear - one that wouldn't get squashed or lost

How about a personalised lapel pin, my 5 year old DS loves fancy things - I reckon he'd love something like that! Maybe with his initials or something.

We got our boys a pocket watch when they were born. They are in with their keepsakes. They absolutely love them. My 12 year old said he will wear his if he ever has to get married 🤣

ANameChangeAgain · 01/09/2021 21:31

I would get them both Charlie Bears or something as value increasing keepsakes, that they can enjoy on the day.

You might be right about a ring still fitting OP. I had a ring for my 8th birthday to fit my middle finger of my right hand. It is a small 9ct engraved gold ring. It now fits the ring finger of my right hand - so it might well fit her. Not sure of ideas for your little boy but I kind of like the hip flask idea.

HelebethH · 01/09/2021 21:42

How about a watch?

Brieeeeeeeeeeee · 01/09/2021 21:47

Love the pocket watch idea

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 01/09/2021 22:06

I was thinking a watch, but a pocket watch would be so lovely. I always wanted on when I was a kid.

WillaWeatherspoon · 01/09/2021 22:11

I also have a 5 year old and he is absolutely desperate for a compass (geographical, not mathematical) - the old fashioned metal ones with a lid. He might think something like that was cool, and you could get it engraved?
