Bugger

@HeronLanyon yes as by withdrawing you think about it and lose so you are still in it once you forget. Love it!

Tataru · 01/09/2021 11:43

Ffs. I'm shaking and crying, the kids are having conniptions. You've ruined our day - nay our week, OP.

HeronLanyon · 01/09/2021 11:48

humming yes and even if I were to decide today ‘right that’s it I’m out’ I’d be right back in when next reminded.
It’s retrospective. And passive.

I think the annoyance for some pp is more to do with the clickbait (understandably) than the actual game/or lack of one as a "game".

Some people, after clicking to read something juicy but it turns out to be this non-game, do feel like flinging their phone across the room. I said "something people", not me.

I've seen a few threads where it was obvious from the title what it is and that seems fair. That way, only those who wish to "play" can click on it. I've never liked clickbaits.

WheresTheFunOnMN · 01/09/2021 11:55

*some, not something! Gah!! MN and no edit button!!!

Anordinarymum · 01/09/2021 11:59

Just googled it and feel relieved I am busy with other things

I think some people need to get over themselvesGrin

I think some people would rather play a game of "I think some people...". Sounds like fun Grin
minou123 · 01/09/2021 12:05

Im pleased I've ruined the day for some - in good way I'm enjoying the insults Grin

For those who think it's pathetic, annoying, click baity, childish etc.
Thanks for the feedback, it's duly noted.

I lost before I clicked.

Loyaultemelie · 01/09/2021 12:58

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! Grin

Ducksurprise · 01/09/2021 13:00

@HeronLanyon

There’s no real withdrawal from the game once you’ve become a player. Quite fascinating.
It is the Actual Hotel California.
Flatdisco · 01/09/2021 13:14

Can anyone explain this to me? I understand what it is. But don't get the point or why so many people seem to think it's a thing. When /where did it start?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/09/2021 13:16

Earliest I can remember bis early 90s, everyone was talking about it. It's just a fun thing, nothing serious.

HadEnoughOfBears · 01/09/2021 13:35

FFS!

Miniroofbox · 01/09/2021 13:38

I don’t “get” the game and that hasn’t annoyed me.

The clickbait title something awful has happened please help when it’s just a stupid game has though.

You could do your game without having people think something actually terrible has happened.

EverybodyIsInteresting · 01/09/2021 13:41

You could do your game without having people think something actually terrible has happened

But something terrible /has/ happened! Grin

Miniroofbox · 01/09/2021 13:41

Sorry no. Having seen people post actually heartbreaking things on here that’s what I thought I’d be reading. This is infantile and belittling and to be honest leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

It's been around since the 90s. I hear about it more on Mumsnet than anywhere else, perhaps because the userbase seems to be largely clustered around the 90s era.

It's just a mental/concept game. There's no point as such, except maybe to encourage you to think about how your mind works. You could say you win The Game every time you think about it but that probably wouldn't be such a hook.

It is interesting to think about how and why it did become so widely known. It's a sort of interesting concept.

MarciaDidia · 01/09/2021 13:46

Second time I've lost today. First time was this text from DH, who has taken the kids out for the day:

"Playing hangman with the kids. 3-4. They were struggling. My clue was “you lose if you guess right”, DS got it straight away!"

EverybodyIsInteresting · 01/09/2021 13:54

Maybe try Listerine?
EverybodyIsInteresting · 01/09/2021 13:56

Op, personally I don't understand why some people seem to be wishing something really awful had actually happened to you

Don't worry, we don't all think like that. (Much)

So you are disappointed someone isn't in a heartbreaking situation.

I don't click on heartbreaking posts to get a kick or thrill or entertainment but to try and offer help if I can, thus I am delighted op is OK and happily annoyed about The Game.

EverybodyIsInteresting · 01/09/2021 14:01

Indeed. And they think what the op did was distasteful!
