Haven caravan holiday - what do I need to take?

The website says the caravans have kitchen equipment but does anyone know what sort and how much? Ie do they have sharp knives and a cheese grater? Are the pans usually vile non stick or ok quality? They say bedding is provided but am I best off taking a duvet and sleeping bags for the kids in case it's chilly or is the bedding nice and warm?

I've never been to a caravan park before, can you tell Blush

Knives are often not sharp and not a huge selection. Tend not to cook other making sandwiches so not sure about pans. Bedding has always been ok for me.

They only give you bin liner so take bin liners! And extra loo roll. And tea towels, washing up liquid, hand soap, hand towels, washing up clothes. And all sugar, condiments etc (the shops on site are expensive)

terrywynne · 31/08/2021 18:55

Oh and you'll need bath towels. And if you a caravan with dishwasher take tablets.

Not used to roughing it??

Oh and the wifi is generally poor/non existent away from the main restaurant/entertainment area so don't rely on having it for things to do in the caravan.

froomeonthebroom · 31/08/2021 18:59

Bath mat, we always used to forget this!

IceLace100 · 31/08/2021 19:00

I'd take waterproofs by the looks of the weather (around here at least!)

DeathMetalMum · 31/08/2021 19:01

Pans reasonable quality. Have a cheese grater. Knives are usually not that sharp, for chopping there is a glass tile but no proper chopping board. Bedding has always been OK but we do go in a caravan with heating which we nearly always use (mainly in the morning) as they do not keep heat at all.

Neveranynamesleft · 31/08/2021 19:06

Cheese grater Hmm

Your arms and legs wont drop off if there isnt one, just slice the bloomin cheese instead. It's not the middle of winter, you won't freeze to death but you could take a hot water bottle if you are of a delicate disposition and that would take up less space than sleeping bags and extra blankets.
You are going for a few days not moving in, make it easy for yourself, you'll cope.

NoWittyNamesAvailable · 31/08/2021 19:08

We've just come back over the weekend. Definitely take a decent knife, there wasn't a chopping board, the pans were ok and bedding was plenty warm enough.

Take loo roll, washing up liquid, dish cloth, tea towels, bin bags. The shops onsite will have pretty much anything you need, i found the prices to be really reasonable where we stayed. Other wise I'm sure there will be a supermarket near.

annie335 · 31/08/2021 19:09

A calendar - so you can count down the days until you can go home 😂

therebeccariots · 31/08/2021 19:11

In addition to all the other excellent suggestions I missed a garlic crusher for the bolognese. I found the slow cooker invaluable. Take pegs for the airer and totally outing but I took our robot hoover which saved my sanity with sand and grass getting dragged in

Sirzy · 31/08/2021 19:11

I always take a frying pan as theirs can be hit and Miss.

You can get supermarket deliveries to the site which is very handy when you get there!

Lulu1919 · 31/08/2021 19:13

Take anti bac wipes and one of those anti bac fabric sprays for upholstery curtains floors headboards etc
Extra towels even if provided
Couple spare sheets to cover sofas

I'm a bit 'extra' I admit

rosie39forever · 31/08/2021 19:14

Loads of bleach and disinfectant

Comedycook · 31/08/2021 19:16

I've just come back from a haven. Our caravan didn't have an oven glove so definitely take one...it was very annoying!

Comedycook · 31/08/2021 19:17

The blankets were fine and warm enough. I took a bath mat too

Comedycook · 31/08/2021 19:17

@rosie39forever

Loads of bleach and disinfectant
Our caravan was spotless
gogohm · 31/08/2021 19:20

There is an inventory on the website. Assume knives are blunt, pans are small and terrible quality and the chopping board is glass. I take my own of all the above when I go self catering!

terrywynne · 31/08/2021 19:23

Slightly Hmm at some of these comments. It's a Haven - hardly roughing it. Our caravans have always been spotless. Never felt the need for bleach or disinfectant. Just normal surface cleaner/washing up liquid to wipe up after yourself. There's some things that it's handy to take to make life easier/save you having to go to on site shop but that's about it. Some of the older caravans are a bit dated but that's not the same as dirty.

Oven gloves are a good call if intending to cook.

Actually quite the opposite, I've only ever done camping holidays! We have splashed out this year due to getting a Family Fund voucher for my disabled DC but feel free to take the piss Hmm

I always take a small chopping board, knife, handwash, teatowels, big mugs if you need them Grin, kitchen roll, anti bac wipes, washing up liquid and cloth, clingfilm/foil/tupperware, as many towels as you can fit in the car, 1 extra pillow each, more towels, bath mat, more handwash, plastic sheet if bedwetting likely, blanket, more towels. It's all much nicer if you're not popping to the shop every 10 mins. Oh, salt and pepper too. And condiments you have frequently.

YouAreEnough · 31/08/2021 19:27

Slightly off topic but if you want to do activities like bike hire etc book before you go. The slots go pretty fast!

BloodyDetails · 31/08/2021 19:28

Sorry that was intended as a reply to @RevolvingPivot but somehow the reply function didn't work.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Loo roll and bin bags now on my list!

We will have to cook at the caravan as we can't afford to eat out more than once during the week, and my DC has some specific food preferences anyway. So knowing whether to take a decent sharp knife and frying pan is important to me Grin

Have an amazing time!
Racingadmin · 31/08/2021 19:29

I take sharp knives, decent frying pan, t-towels, washing up liquid, kitchen roll, antibacterial wipes .

Also corkscrew, decent size mugs and wine glasses . It all lives in a lidded box in the garage that I just add tea, coffee, condiments and tins to whenever we go self catering .

If you normally camp I'm sure you could put similar together from camping kit
