Hey everyone. I frozen the chicken 2 days before the use by date. I took it out today but it was still frozen so ive decided to defrost it in the microwave. I forgot to turn it and it's a bit yellow and cooked round the edges, still frozen in the middle. I've read you can cook it when it's not fully thawed? So I've seasoned and shoved in the oven at 190degrees???
When I opened the packet is smelt a bit like yoghurt? Bit spur but nothing rancid. It wasnt a bad smell just not amazing.

I'm vegetarian and have been since a child, I'm not great at meat cooking so I really need help. Is it safe for my partner to eat? Or is it takeaway tonight?

No I wouldn’t eat it, and I’m generally quite relaxed about these things.

Passthewinebottle · 31/08/2021 17:38

I would definitely eat it as long as it is v well cooked!

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 31/08/2021 17:39

I wouldn't eat it. And I'm normally very relaxed about stuff like that

It should be ok but I wouldn’t fancy it. Takeaway for me!
Get your partner to smell it and do a taste testEnvyif they’re brave enough - that is not envy!

AdaColeman · 31/08/2021 17:42

No, I wouldn't eat it.

Sophie1029734 · 31/08/2021 17:43

Oh god okay, I will finish cooking it, look at it, most likely chuck it. I'm not great at stuff like this, I'll stick to fresh chicken or no chicken.

If it's a leg/breast cut it into small pieces so it will cook evenly and more thoroughly. Cook it well and it should be OK.

Sophie1029734 · 31/08/2021 17:53

Its takeaway for my partner tonight! 😳 I dont like how much liquid there is, maybe it's because it was a but frozen still?
I dont trust it, it's going in the bin

I would eat it. It looks fully cooked. DH would be horrified if I threw it away too.

NewLifePending · 31/08/2021 18:30

I’d eat it

Suzi888 · 31/08/2021 18:51

It looks ok to be honest, I don’t eat meat but it looks quite nice lol

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/08/2021 18:53

It's fine, cook the liquid off a bit more if it bothers you. There's just a bit more than usual as it's been frozen.

VaguelyInteresting · 31/08/2021 18:56

I don’t fuck about with chicken, pork or fish.

Beef and game I’m rather more relaxed about but not the white meats. I had food poisoning at the start of last week- only possible culprit was a chicken I’d bought from the butchers, was fresh, smelt fine, looked fine, tasted fine. Clearly i STILL fucked up and cross contaminated somewhere because I spent 6 hours vomiting my life out last Monday.

I’d be ordering in. It’s the smell for me. Any hint of a whiff and it’s out.

Peachee · 31/08/2021 18:57

If you are having to ask the answer is no

MyDcAreMarvel · 31/08/2021 19:06

You can never cook partly frozen chicken unless it’s the specific frozen breast cooked stuff.

thanksforyourcommentrandomman · 31/08/2021 19:20

I regularly cook full chickens from frozen, as long as it's completely cooked through it'll be fine.

LeavesOffTheCactus · 31/08/2021 20:08

I would 100% eat that

loveyours · 31/08/2021 20:11

If you defrost chicken in the microwave the corners go yellow. Nothing to do with the date! Just cut it off.

Can't believe people are throwing away good food for no reason.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 31/08/2021 20:12

I probably wouldn't but then I won't have anything to do with supermarket chicken unless it's got at least 5 days to go on the sell by date.

Sophie1029734 · 31/08/2021 21:19

I ended up throwing the chicken, it looked really juicy and tasty but he didnt want to risk it. I'm not about wasting food like that, it didnt feel good scraping it in the bin. If theres a risk of food poisoning, it's not not worth it. I'll just stick to fresh chicken

I hate defrosting food, it's always such a chore, I don't freeze something unless I'm willing to cook it from frozen... if date is getting close (and i don't want to eat it then for whatever reason) I just cook it and then put in fridge and usually eat it next day.
