If it was your 60th birthday, what would you like?

I've absolutely no clue what to get, I'm hoping for some magical Mumsnet inspiration please

Lady in question doesn't drink alcohol or do sports
Does enjoy most things to do with nature but lives in an apartment so doesn't own a garden.
She's not into expensive handbags/jewellery

Was thinking more of a thing to do rather than a wrapped gift but right now I'll take any suggestions please!?!

A 'Llama Experience' looks like fun. Not sure of the cost.

We recently had a local cake shop deliver an afternoon tea for a friends 70th birthday - that went down very well.

What about a hamper from Betty's?

Friends gave us vouchers for The Ivy - lots of restaurants now have evouchers.

Don't know where you are in the country but I was recently down in Windsor and there were lots of cruises on the Thames which included afternoon tea etc.

I'm in my 60's and I've always fancied a 'Birds of Prey' experience.

Lovely PJ's or nightie ?

I'm 70 + and my generation ( I know she's younger) tend not to splash out on fripperies that won't be seen by general public .

A lovely lamp/reading light?

Perfume ! I thought I'd hate someone else choosing a scent for me but my son tends to buy expensive perfume as a gift at Christmas and it turns out that I don't .I suspect the good stuff is pretty likeable to all .

I would be perturbed to receive anything too sedate or muted.

It is perhaps more difficult if someone doesn’t drink - but I’d much rather a cocktail bar than afternoon tea. Or boxing gloves rather than a nice gentle walk.

A hike to a luxury hotel would be nice. (Maybe out of budget)

A monthly flower delivery would be lovely ( at least I'd love it!).
Otherwise a high tea at a fancy hotel for two.

I've just had my 60th. My friend took me out for a lovely meal. The staff had been told it was my birthday and made sure we had a fab time.

My daughter gave me a huge "it's my birthday" badge, which I wore, and everyone was wishing me a happy birthday.

My advice is, whatever you get her, include a big birthday badge...

Food hamper

Ah, see, I'd hate to have to wear a badge ... ! We had lunch at Restaurant Gordon Ramsey once on my birthday and the waiters sang the most discreet and refined "Happy Birthday " to me, that was about as much attention seeking as I could cope with

As for some of the other suggestions
Yes to
Well-chosen perfume (I think Penhaligons do some kind of perfume experience?) or a known favourite
Book, magazine or flower subscription- or great coffee eg Columbia Coffee roasters in Oxford
Nice candles eg Neom, Jo Malone
Luxury bath stuff to go with my favourite perfume

No to
Anything too sedate! 60 is not old
Joke "old" presents - anti wrinkle cream, blow up Zimmer frame etc

And some of the other suggestions might be good with a tweak - a hike, yes... luxury hotel, yes ... arriving at a luxury hotel hot, dishevelled and gasping after a hike ... maybe not!

@SpindleWhorl

I will always think of mine as the big damp squib covid birthday! It rained as well so we couldn't even light the bbq.

My DD sent me Bloom and Wild flowers and after initially thinking I'd received a box of weeds, I put them in water as instructed and they were beautiful by the next morning.

Does your person have any dietary needs? My DS made me a 'hamper' of gluten-free chocolate, and fruit.

My experience with B&W was very like that! They were absolutely gorgeous once they'd revived and lasted for ages.

Depends on how close I was to this person.

The best presents involve spending time with that person. I would not gift them £150 activity gift unless I was doing it with them.

I would love to be taken to tea at the ritz or claridges.

Voucher for a meal out at very naice restaurant?

lljkk · 31/08/2021 17:55

although personally I LIKE having Oxfam goats. That & a box of chocolates would make me very happy.
