If my DC like Ghosts and Taskmaster, what other TV shows will they like?

We've finished Ghosts and the bleeped version of Taskmaster. They also like Would I Lie to You.

I'm looking for family shows that the adults will enjoy too.

DC are 8 and 13.

What TV do you watch as a family / what do your DC like that's watchable as an adult?

Thanks :)

They also both love She Ra, Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts and How to Train your Dragon but I'm often not really in the mood for cartoons!

I'd like something with real people in it we can watch together.

DD likes Upstart crow, she was a big fan of horrible histories and Would I lie to you? So recognizer David Mitchell and Gemma Whelan.

Yonderland has the HH and Ghosts crew in it, it's pretty surreal but Dd liked it and some grown up jokes for the adults too.

Doctor Who
Friday Night Dinner (older one)

Do you think Upstart Crow would be suitable for an 8 year old (as in, would she get it?)

LegoMasters? The Australian one is being broadcast at the moment. The challenges are incredible and the contestants are great characters!

moofolk · 30/08/2021 21:52

Yes Lego Masters.

My DC like both the shows in the OP, and we also all enjoy Brooklyn 99.

KimberWozRobbed · 30/08/2021 21:52

Mine like Masterchef Australia, Crystal Maze and my 13 year old is currently obsessed with Quantum Leap.

NuffSaidSam · 30/08/2021 21:56

Blackadder (although maybe not all suitable for the 8 year old).

Hypothetical on Dave.

Secret life of 4 year olds (and the other ones).

Old People's home for 4 year olds.

Any animal documentaries. Secret life of the Zoo (if you don't mind animal sex!). Supervet.

TolpuddleFarter · 30/08/2021 21:56

We like the same as you, and my children also enjoy Outnumbered.

NuffSaidSam · 30/08/2021 21:56

We also like the bake off.

FKATondelayo · 30/08/2021 22:00

Count Arthur Strong
Mitchell & webb sketch shows
Citizen Khan (it's so dated but my kids love it for some reason)

GuyFawkesDay · 30/08/2021 22:04

Netflix - the letter for the king

@shesellsseacats re: Upstart crow, Dd came in to my room one night when I was watching it as she couldn't sleep, she laughed a bit but I don't think she got everything but the costumes and physical comedy was enough to make her want to keep watching. She's older now (12) and its sparked a bit of a live of Shakespeare which is nice. There is a brilliant pandemic one set during the Plague that has lots of current references that I'm sure even the 8 year old will be giggling at.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 30/08/2021 22:48

Citizen Khan is another big hit in our house too - I know it divided opinion when it first aired but we live in a very, very white area and any exposure to different cultures and customs can only be a positive thing.

I find that DD actually really likes the 'older' programmes Only Fools and Horses, Open all Hours, One foot in the grave, Fawlty towers, Mr Bean, My family etc obviously times and attitudes have changed but there is a certain type of comedy which really seems to tickle her and you don't seem to get in family shows now. They all seem a bit too polished and americanised. All though talking of american programming Malcolm in the Middle can be streamed from 5 on demand and DD loves that too.

ichundich · 30/08/2021 22:57

QI, Outnumbered.

shesellsseacats · 31/08/2021 10:46

Great suggestions here, thank.

We went for LegoMasters today, which was a hit.

Yes, we do too, that's another family favourite :)

Merlin, though some of the later episodes might be a little scary. (Also thats not real people obviously.) I was thinking about Allo Allo and mine like Fawlty Towers. It's a shame the Snackmaster thing was post watershed as I think that would be good but there is the occasional swear word.

Oh, sorry for being unclear! By real people I just meant not animation.

Merlin is a great suggestion, thanks.

@shesellsseacats
I’m glad you all enjoyed it! Can’t wait until you get to the bridge episode! The tension! Also, love to hate the show’s villain Kale!

languagelover96 · 04/02/2022 11:28

I loved Fawlty Towers. Citizen Khan was not as popular but we liked it as it was different. I loved outnumbered as well. Currently watching Fresh off the Boat.

MavisEnderby74 · 04/02/2022 11:55

The Goes Wrong Shows in iplayer go down well here.
