Truro School or Truro High School?

We need to choose one for DD but they are so different.

Truro School is big, excellent facilities and results, mixed.

Truro High is girls only, small, not such great facilities but the fact that it’s so small will help DD to get a more personalised education which I feel she needs as she struggles with focus despite not struggling with anything else.

Any tips or experiences?

Apologies in advance for bumping this for traffic.

I went to Truro School in the 80s when it was boys only with a co-ed sixth form. I travelled on a bus from Camborne with loads of TS & THS kids. TS was a great school with great academic & sporting /artistic facilities. All of this has improved since my time.
Many of the kids knew each other anyway eg I went to TS with a boy whose 2 sisters went to THS & this was repeated many fold.
Lots of THS girls moved to TS for 6th form for science based A levels, as I recall THS had a good reputation for languages.

I’m so torn.

DD isn’t sporty at all, and nor was I at school. I hated going out and playing hockey etc in the rain and wind. TS has such amazing indoor facilities that maybe she won’t hate it as much as did. THS has all weather pitches outside.

The all girls thing has both pluses and minuses for me that I can’t decide.

I fear she will get lost at the local colleges hence why we are looking at private. But by putting her in a big private school, will she get lost there too? (Lost as I’m having no focus/drive to do well).

But THS seems such a lovely little school, but maybe too close to my own school experience 30 years ago.

I assume that you are in Truro or somewhere with good access? In my time a group of parents chartered a bus from the local operator. There was one from Falmouth & one from Camborne / Redruth (actually 2 buses because of the number of kids). Some kids went by train but neither school is that close to the station & TS is completely on the other side of the city.
You say that DD isn't sporty but the opportunities are there if she wanted to try them. There are also lots of chances at TS for art / drama type activities at TS, I can't speak for THS as I don't know how they're set up.
Are you considering day pupil or boarder? TS boarding houses have been revamped & updated since I left, again I don't know about THS.
Are you able to go & see both places? Get DD's view?
I was in Truro this week and there's a lot of work going on at THS, not sure what, but a big looking project, lots of scaffolding & sheeting.

My dd is at THS and it's been brilliant. The small classes and the individual attention were the things that made us choose it for her, as she has specific learning needs, and the school has been totally wonderful for her. She has fantastic friends and has been really happy there.

I'm sure TS is great too, but I don't really know it! There are lots of opportunities for all sorts of extra curricular activities at THS (DD is obsessed with one and has done it throughout her time there and got a whole extra set of friends from it) -- again, I don't know about TS and it clearly has brilliant sports facilities, though they don't do the activity that DD loves.

Good luck with your decision!
