I want to go for lovely long walks but I can't be arsed.

How do I get my arse into gear? Last year I went for lovely long walks and it honestly made me feel so much better physically and mentally. I live in a lovely village with lots of options but I've got myself back into 'sluggish' mode and I don't know how to get out of it. I have a dog but he's very old and his hips are not great so we only have short walks buy often.

Does anyone else want to do something but just can't get themselves started? 'Stop being a lazy bastard' is the advice I'm giving myself but it's not motivating me. 😂

Long walks with a good friend are one of my favourite things. On my own or with my family they’re much less fun.

I’m the same - lots of walks last year. This year, a lot fewer.

I’m blaming the weather. It’s been so cloudy and dismal. Today, the forecast said sunny all day, not a high temperature, but sunny. Wrong - cloudy. Dragged myself out to do some gardening, and got rained on, twice!

Sign up for a fitness challenge it really focuses you.

When I'm feeling like I don't feel like going for a run, I get all geared up and trick myself I'm just going to run to the shop to buy chocolate and then back.
I always end up just running past the shop and really enjoying myself.
Worth a try?

Love your thread title! Grin

Outside walking is great, but if you cba to leave the house, I'd recommend you search for '5km from home' and you'll find a Youtube walking workout video from a lovely Italian-American trainer called Leslie Sansone. It's 5km in 45 mins, and harder work than you initially think - I reallly like it and do it most days.

I also like a shorter workout from Joanna Soh - it's called the 10,000 Step Indoor Challenge but the title is rather misleading as you only have 30 mins and actually do 4k-5k steps. It's good fun and good exercise, though. Make sure you do a warmup and cooldown though: these aren't included and they really should be. I usually do the warm-up from one of my Davina DVDs before starting this one.

I often go for a quick walk outside when I've completed these workouts - it's really nice to cool off and stroll in the open air and feel that I've already achieved something, instead of trudging out virtuously!

Are you in the UK @tempchecked?
It sounds perfect!

@NormallyOK

Long walks - what do you all do when you need a toilet stop? This is what holds me back
Go behind a bush. It's rare you can't find somewhere suitably secluded if you are unable to wait until you get back to civilisation.

To the OP, second the podcast/audiobook recommendation. I've always been a walker and a podcast fan, but pre covid I listened to them in the car during my daily commute and also when driving to client sites.

When covid put a stop to all that, I started walking for a good hour a day to keep active and get out of the house, but it took me a few weeks to realise that I could listen to my podcasts then, which I still do. I bought some cheap wireless earbuds from Amazon, which make it really easy.

Any plans to take a walk yet OP?
