Society treat professions like solicitors & police officers with much more respect? Anyone else agree?

V brief intro... We're having an awful time with neighbours over, they have now started intimidating us & being passive aggressive towards us... DH & I are very much in agreement that they wouldn't dare mess with us if we were police officers, solicitors, govt or civil servants etc... Are we right or wrong?

You couldn’t be wronger. Admittedly I’m quite amused by the idea of your problem neighbours being frightened into good behaviour by the presence of a civil servant on the other side of the wall.

A friend who’s a circuit court judge married to a classics professor had her car stolen off the drive with her wig and robes on the back seat.

I'm sorry about the neighbours OP, but I'm afraid to say that twattish neighbours don't care what profession you are in, because they are indeed twats.

Chuckling slightly at the idea of solicitors being treated with respect - haven’t you seen all the house buying threads where every single solicitor is lazy, feckless and not doing their job (which any body could do - it’s not exactly hard is it?!?). Or see the scorn piled on legal professionals who dare to defend criminals?

Civil servants are just bean counters who stop work the moment they have done 37 hours in the week, regardless of what is happening. They do like a good strike every now and again.

Teachers don’t do their jobs properly. Doctors either won’t see patients or are woefully incompetent.

Police? Either useless or corrupt, nothing in between.

Nope, professions are not respected. I’m not sure if they should be, as I’m not sure that certain jobs are ‘better’ than others, but I couldn’t care less what my neighbours do for a living (except the time I was lucky enough to live next door to a professional opera singer - that was awesome! Free daily concert in the summer when she was practicing with the windows open…)

I don’t know - I’m a solicitor and I feel like I get snarky comments about blood sucking / inflated fees / ambulance chasing etc way more than I get respect!

Sorry your neighbours are so shit. That must be really stressful to deal with. Nothing can interfere with a happy life like bad neighbours Flowers

I agree with you, OP

Completely see where you are coming from.

I am a doctor - the amount of abuse I get is horrific. If people will talk to me like that I feel very very sorry for people who work in shops.
