Repulsed by eating after food poisoning

Am getting over the worst bout of food poisoning (?) I've ever had in my life. Except, I'm not sure that it's food poisoning at all. This is the 4th time I've had it in the last few months. Always from takeaway except from once from a Charlie Bigham cottage pie. No-one else who has eaten the same food has got ill. And not just a bit sick- repeatedly projectile vomiting dark green bile, the shits, the shivers, aches and pains etc. Absolutely vile.

So now I'm recovering but the thought of eating anything beyond the odd cracker is making me feel very anxious and quite repulsed. I know I need to eat something as I feel weak and exhausted. Even the thought of preparing food is freaking me out, and I know I've got to get over that as DD will be coming home later and I'll need to prepare food for her. Does anyone have any suggestions of low maintenance stuff to try and eat over the next few days until I can get back to normal?

Doesn't sound like food poisoning if it's 4 times in a few months. I'd go to the GP after the bank holiday weekend.

"No-one else who has eaten the same food has got ill."
I'd take that quite seriously, and go to the GP. If nobody else got ill eating the same things - what makes you think it's food poisoning?

I had some gut issues that caused me to vomit a lot for a couple of years. I found it easier to drink rather than eat, so - non-diet drinks, two sugars in my tea and a biscuit that was dunked to be soft and only semi-solid. That would usually make me feel OK enough to risk scrambled eggs, maybe a banana. Nothing strong-smelling or strong-tasting.

But do get yourself checked out OP. Frequent vomiting is exhausting, and not good for the teeth either (all that stomach acidSad).

Go to the Drs - it doesn't sound like food poisoning.
I had HG and recommend plain basmati rice with peas and sweetcorn mixed in, plain white french stick with jam and peppermint cordial to drink.

Unlikely to be food poisoning if nobody else was ill. Go to the GP

I've had all sorts of investigations for similar, and I'm currently on a very restrictive diet. I make everything myself now, very low fat and low FODMAP (gluten and lactose free, no onions or garlic, etc). It's gradually helping. I need to repair my gut.

But do see your GP to rule out gallbladder disease, bowel disease etc.

It's grim, isn't it? Flowers

Bouts of Cholecystitis?

EvenLess07 · 29/08/2021 17:51

I know it's not really food poisoning, although the symptoms do mimic it. It's happening too often to be that Sad. Just got about a quarter of the way through a bowl of plain noodles and had to give up. Going to go back to the liquids until tomorrow I think and try and see a GP next week

It’s not food poisoning.

Go to your GP.

Tataru · 29/08/2021 17:54

The bile makes me think gallbladder related. The fattiness of takeaways might be triggering it. Def see a GP.

EvenLess07 · 29/08/2021 17:55

It's just strange, it's never from home cooking (not that I'm any great shakes as a cook!) It's always pre-prepared stuff or takeaway. It's really put me off ordering in again, and usually I love a takeaway.

It could be the high fat content.
MeredithGreyishblue · 29/08/2021 18:51

I'm not an expert but that sounds like it's the fat content upsetting you.

Please go and get your poor tummy checked out. It must be wretched for you

The symptoms match some of mine from gallbladder / bile duct issues in the past. Another one here pushing you to speak to the GP!

MrsCatE · 29/08/2021 19:17

Oh dear. Agree with others. Not food poisoning: think Gall stones/gastritis or duodentis. Yup. Have them all and only takes one thing off to have me expelling blood from most orifices and being sent to hospital, via Blue
Lit ambulance.

PurpleCloak · 29/08/2021 20:38

Definitely GP. In the meantime, get some Complan and also some rehydration sachets.

PurpleCloak · 29/08/2021 20:40

Sorry, and hope you get it sorted!
