WWYD price negotiation

WWYD in this situation:
I interviewed a language tutor for my DC via Zoom this morning. She was recommended, seemed great, we both agree we are a match and plan on a weekly 1h30 session with both DC (twins so same academic level).
Now the WWYD part. I ask what her rate was, she says she usually takes £40 per hour for one child but for two she would take £55. I say «and we would do 1 hour and a half» (meaning 1.5 x £55) she answers «ok, yes I’ll do 55 for 1 hour and a half».
All good we finish the interview.
And then I think, if her normal rate for one child is £40/h, an hour and a half would be £60. And I have asked for £55 for two children. It wasn’t my intention but obviously she thought it was and must have thought I was quite cheeky, wouldn’t she??

Would you contact her to clarify and offer 1.5 x £55 = £82 ? Or be glad you made a good deal and forget about it?

Sounds like ah agrees to £55 for an hour and a half for two children.

Hmm, I'd contact her and clarify what you were offering.

I think you are cheeky. Its not buy one get one free just because you have twins. Pay her properly.

I think you need to re-read the OP, more slowly this time.

If you can afford the £82, which presumably you can, then offer that.

Okbutnotgreat · 29/08/2021 06:50

Hell no I’d take the £55 offer and go with that. It’s a lot of money to pay regularly and a very good hourly rate for the tutor (compared to the £9 ph I earn for example). She offered the rate, you accepted, job done don’t overthink it.

HotChoc10 · 29/08/2021 08:10

I'd probably just pay the 82 after the first session

Mixed answers… I agree it is really expensive but not out of the ordinary for my area. But then I could definitely use the money for something else.

Maybe when I ask her for her bank details I’ll also ask if the £55 were for the 1:30 or the hourly rate, giving her a chance to rectify?
