How to store wedding dress

Sorry I should maybe have posted this in weddings but it's sometimes a quiet board Smile

Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to store a wedding dress after the wedding?

It needs dry cleaned then to be left to dry for a few weeks I know that, but after that? Long term I don't know what to do with it but don't want to make any rash decisions.

Got married last week and it's currently hanging in my wardrobe but from what I've read that isn't great for long term?

Thanks!

You ideally should use acid free tissue paper. Then store it in a box that is acid free (I think the empty box company do these?)

Yeah that's what I did and it's been in my FIL's loft since.
I actually took the risk and washed mine in the bath after doing a bit of research. Luckily it turned out perfect and saved me a few quid

Look at the company Terrington Burchett - they’re a specialist wedding dress cleaning service and I believe package it for you to be stored safely as well. Xx

Mine's been in a suitcase in the loft for 25 years and is fine ... no special wrapping as I never got around to it.

Probably not what you want to hear but why don’t you consider not keeping it? I got rid of mine as space was an issue. It was a wonderful day and I’ve got so many pictures of me in it and that’s enough for me.

Um, mine is still unwashed and in a plastic dress bag thing in the wardrobe. Only been there 10 years or so (admittedly it wasn’t a floor length dress and it was on the bedroom floor by 5pm, so wasn’t worn for that long!).

Thanks everyone will have a look at the suggestions

@BananaMilkshakeWithCream I probably won't keep them long term, I just don't want to get rid of it straight away and then regret it, it's more just until I decide what to do with it Smile

Fair one. I worried the same thing about whether I’d regret it. Three years after chucking it I genuinely can say I don’t regret it. The pictures of me wearing it and DH looking so happy are enough to bring a smile to my face every time.
