Sick of constant clutter & cleaning - any tips for living with less?

I’m sick of spending my weekends tidying & cleaning and basically moving ‘stuff’ around from room to room.
My DS is 13.5 & I want to to make the most of my weekends with him before he completely doesn’t want to do ‘family stuff’. DD 8 wants me to spend time with her and I’m always saying, I just need to do this...
I am constantly decluttering but the house never feels tidy or organised. There are piles of clothes everywhere and yet I feel as though I never have anything nice to wear.
I’ve tried making ‘homes’ for things but no-one else ever puts them back there so it just doesn’t work.
I feel overwhelmed by the constant mess - it’s not hoarder level, it’s just constant & I’m thinking there has to be a better way to organise everything.

I work mon-thurs so I leave all my jobs to Friday but that is never enough and it eats into the weekend.

Does anyone have any suggestions please for more simple living?

Little and often

Make your dc put stuff away

Hardly buy anything at all ever unless it’s actually needed
When you get rid of stuff be brutal, I go through stuff a couple of times a year.

I have bought nothing except garden stuff and a robot hoover since lockdown began.

This is a slightly odd question but how quickly can you do things? I have some mobility issues but I’m still quite quick though limited with weight and size of stuff I can move which irks me greatly. I used to be like lightening. When DH does stuff he takes an age and his Mum is a total potterer. I think some people are naturally speedy. Plus how sentimental are you? I’m not at all but DH is, it is much harder for him to let go of stuff.

Have fewer clothes too.

We wash frequently and dry what we can on hangers and it gets put away no ironing.

The DC have to sort through the clean clothes and put into piles after dinner.

Use the onion method - remove stuff in layers.
Start on the simple things.
When you have done one round you've built your simplifying muscles and can feel the benefits and are ready to go further.
