Which is better - Legoland or Chessington

Hi all
I’ve think I’ve read some post about 3 hours queues at Chessington in school holidays. I am wondering if Legoland is any better? Thanks

Depends on ages of children

megletthesecond · 26/08/2021 23:25

It depends on how old the children are.
Legoland is more pre-school and infants.
Chessington is better for older primary DC's.

Sorry should have said they are 7 and almost 5.

As previous posters have said, it depends on age. Legoland up to age 10/11 tops. Also depends on whether your children are particularly thrill seeking!

Queuing is quite an exhausting experience in itself at either!

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 26/08/2021 23:34

At 5 and 7 I think they'd get more out of Legoland. My kids are 12 and 14 now, but have fond memories of a number of visits there when they were smaller.

Newnormal99 · 26/08/2021 23:42

It depends - if you have some money to throw at it with legoland you can get a qbot. Pricey but cuts the queues. The equivilant at chessington is more for specific rides.

Legoland with age 7 and 5. Chessington is more big rides from memory, LL is more 'whole family fun' rides.

We went this month and 4 year old Ds3 was tall enough (110cm) to go on every single ride bar one. However, most of the same rides were equally enjoyed by our older dc 13 and 11 (and by me and dh!). It was lovely that we were all able to go on every ride together.

There were some smaller ones which dc3 went on whilst the older two were wasting their pocket money on the basketball hoops, trying to win a giant stuffed toy.

If you do go to LL, you MUST go on the new Mythica ride. It has the longest queue so best to try and run at opening and get there first - but every second of the queue is totally worth it, it was wonderful.

AmazinglyGraceless · 26/08/2021 23:45

Disagree with the posts saying maximum age or only for younger ones though.

My two older ones like fair rides well enough - they're not huge thrill seekers though. But they thoroughly enjoyed two full days there and there was plenty to do even for them.

Wannabegreenfingers · 26/08/2021 23:45

Personally can't stand lego land, very dated. My children are 10 & 9 and prefer Chessington and have done for the last 3 years.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 26/08/2021 23:48

We went to Chessington today. It was really busy and we barely got on any rides, although the staff were all lovely and my 4 and 11 year old children enjoyed it. My 5 year old though said that there were too many rides for big children which I agreed with. Having said that, they have also got the zoo which we didn't go to and I have also read many complaints of huge queues at Legoland.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 26/08/2021 23:48

Lego land is an absolute shit hole
Wasps everywhere and poorly maintained, rude staff. I hate it. That was pre COVID though perhaps things have changed.

Definitely legoland
CustardyCreams · 27/08/2021 02:33

At that age definitely Legoland. The rides are all more appropriate and there is plenty that isn’t ride-based scattered through the park. The problem with Chessington is that the Zoo is sort of a separate thing, so you can’t just look at a few animals while you wait for queues to clear.

3WildOnes · 27/08/2021 06:41

In my experience the queues are much longer at Legoland. I haven’t been to either since COVID.
I prefer Chessington overall, they have more outside play spaces, a soft play and the Zoo and aquarium which can be nice to break up the queuing for rides.

trumpisagit · 27/08/2021 07:00

Legoland. My kids loved it at that age, and up to 10 and 8.

We intend to try Drayton Manor at some point. We haven't been since they were into Thomasland.

Roselilly36 · 27/08/2021 07:12

Legoland out of the two. Chessington seemed more dated than Legoland to me. Much more for little ones too.

DarnTooting · 27/08/2021 09:09

How tall are they? If the smallest is over 1.1m there are a lot more rides available at LL whereas all the big rides at CWOA need you to be 1.2m

Shows and splash pool are big advantages for LL but CWOA doubles up as a zoo day plus has Elmer, Gruffalo and Room on the Broom rides
