Emergency Kit for student dorm

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/08/2021 23:13

A friends son is off to university next month and I know she will have kitted him out, but I wanted to put together a sort of Kit of lesser thought of (but essential) things, sort of helpful and sort of tongue in cheek.

I thought I could get a tin and put stuff in like plasters, condoms, a bottle opener, some seasonings for easy dinners.

Any other helpful suggestions of "man, I wish I had X"type items?

Should add, we (me and his mum, and him) have the sort of relationship where supplying a few condoms wouldnt be an issue, just in case anyone thinks that sort of thing inappropriate.

A spare £20 note, but sort of sealed up so you have to break into it to get to it.

Something like www.boots.com/o-r-s-oral-salts-blackcurrant-flavour-24-tablets-10169839 these which will help rehydrate him when he’s -hungover- ill.

A pair of emergency socks that are too embarrassing to wear unless he has none even vaguely clean.

-Thermometer and teaching them how to use and what is normal/too high

  • Basic analgesia
  • Anti-histamines if they get allergies
  • Plasters/blister pack
  • basic meals/student cookbook
  • pot noodles

All packed into a man tin.

Sh05 · 27/08/2021 00:09

Add in some spoons and forks too. I know he'll have some but there was a number of times my parents caught my brother trying to have cereal with a fork because all the spoons had gone AWOL.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 27/08/2021 00:18
  • Pizza wheel to cut pizzas
  • tin opener

The kind of things as a student you don't realise you need but you really do lol

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/08/2021 00:22

Bigpjbottoms282 · 27/08/2021 06:36

What a lovely idea. I am struggling to imagine any kind of relationship where I'd have felt comfortable receiving condoms off my mums friend though. I'd leave that to them.

Multivitamins, earplugs, antibac wipes.

Elouera · 27/08/2021 19:23

Thought of some other things:

  • door wedge (not sure if they are allowed?)
  • batteries
  • torch or head torch (with batteries!)
  • spare phone charger
  • multisocket extension with override switch
DorotheaDiamond · 27/08/2021 19:24

I would NEVER recommend anti-diarrhoea medication to anyone, unless someone had them prescribed for a chronic, intestinal disorder, or you you needed to do a journey in say India where toilet availability might be limited.

Its much better to get out the bug that has caused the diarrhoea, rather than trying to keep it in your body where it can multiple and causes even more issues!

Elouera · 28/08/2021 22:11

*multiply not multiple.

IvorAlotOfHeadaches · 28/08/2021 22:26

Whatever kit you come up with should all be packaged in the main event ….. a sick bowl.
