Advice on Teen DS strange chest lump

DS now 15, had benign tumours removed when he was a little boy from his neck and chest. He has had some more over the years but not large enough to do anything about. We found one yesterday in the centre of his chest and this is the first one we've found in a year or so. This has really upset him, he couldn't sleep last night and has needed reassurance today. With his history of lumps, we decided that we would wait until Monday to decide on whether it warranted a Doctors appointment. I was out this afternoon and he called me to say he'd had the strangest sensation and it felt like it had drained out inside him and the lump has shrunk. I checked it when I got home but it felt the same size to me. He has just had a bath and felt the same sensation. I felt the lump again and it feels tiny! Does anyone know if this is even possible or are we moving the lump and getting it at different angles? He is a bit more worried as this hasn't happened before. It is also quite painful but I imagine he's been prodding it rather a lot! I will probably call the GP tomorrow but I wondered if this sounded at all familiar to anyone?

He needs to be seen by a doctor. Nobody can or should try to diagnose on here.
I know you must be worried, but you need to call your gp.

It could be almost anything OP. Kindly, I really would wait to speak to the doctor rather than wind yourself up with advice from strangers on the internet.

Best of luck.

Thank you for your replies. I will call the GP tomorrow but I've just never heard of what he's experiencing! To be honest, I didn't really believe him this afternoon as he has been a little worried about it and has had mild health anxiety in the past but feeling it myself was so strange!

Has he been tested for neurofibromatosis?

WishITookLifeSeriously · 26/08/2021 23:13

He hasn't DaisyDreaming. I haven't heard of it either!

Definitely see the gp. I have a breast lump which varies in size, not seen the gp yet but over email they said it varying in size almost certainly means its harmless but still needs checking, no idea if that applies to all lumps though. Definitely gp.

WishITookLifeSeriously · 26/08/2021 23:15

Just googled it. His lumps are far more hidden than the images from Google. His are more like smarties under the skin, that are usually dealt with when they get to the size of those UFO sweets.

Thank you. I'll give the same advice back to you, to notify your GP and best of luckDaffodil

@WishITookLifeSeriously there’s different types of NF and it also presents differently. I’ve known people with it who have tumours but you would never know due to them being on the inside

Neurofibromas can either be cutaneous (above the skin) or subcutaneous (just underneath).
You say he had several removed, has pathology ever reported what they were?
