Toilet limescale, I've found the ultimate product

My dm recently visited and brought this stuff with her to see what I thought of it. AMAZING! Since we moved in here almost 8 years ago, there's been a grotty line of limescale round the front rim, have tried everything over the years. Tried this and next time I went for a pee an hour later, gave it a wee rub with the toilet brush and all gone. I'm even more excited than when I got my last washing machine Grin

Unfortunately from my very brief googling I think you can only bulk buy it, not checked amazon or eBay though.

Toilet limescale, I've found the ultimate product

Oooo thanks!

Branster · 26/08/2021 20:46

Phosphoric acid based cleaner apparently.
Please follow safety instructions and use rubber gloves, avoid spills etc
Sounds magic! I'm very tempted.

TheCanyon · 26/08/2021 21:52

@Branster, good point and also i just have left it sitting in my bathroom, the bottle looks friendly enough but I should definitely put it away from the dc.

i just squirted it up under the rim and also on the rim facing that had the grotty limescale, no scrubbing, just a wipe with the toilet brush to get the gel off and it was gone. I wish I had taken pics. Honest to god, I've tried EVERYTHING on it over 8 years and nowt helped.

I'm happy to send a sample if I safely can?! I doubt it though eh?

Black Harpic is amazing too!

I love finding things that actually work.

Esssa · 26/08/2021 22:04

Can you use it with a septic system? I inherited limescaley loos but haven't managed to shift it yet. Bathroom is being ripped out and replaced in the next year so won't be a problem for too much longer either way.

No this is https://www.homebase.co.uk/hg-toilet-renovation-kit-500ml/12827907.html?utmsource=google&utmmmedium=organic&utmcampaign=shopping&affil=thggps&switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB&afil=thgppc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq6Kbp8zP8gIVrYBQBh2KaQcUEAQYAiABEgLGkkD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

It made the disgusting (not been cleaned for about 30 years) toilet, that was in my DHs factory when he moved in white again. I was all for ripping it out and getting a new one!

Helenahandkart · 26/08/2021 22:29

I put 1/4 cup of white vinegar in and leave it overnight and all the limescale’s fallen off by morning. Works better than any toilet cleaner.

My loo timescale problem is in the bottom of the toilet, where the water sits. I don't understand it. The downstairs loo is fine but upstairs is thick with it. We've replaced both loos since we moved in 20 years ago and the old loos were the same. Upstairs all furred up, downstairs fine Confused

WaterIsBest · 26/08/2021 22:38

I live for threads like this and im not even 40 🙈

Carboncheque · 26/08/2021 22:47

I just use a box of citric acid. It’s £1.75 from Ocado so I’m sure it’s even cheaper elsewhere. Tip half a box into the loo, leave it overnight, give it a scrub (with a toilet brush Shock ) in the morning.

NB The toilet brush lives with the cleaning products and is only used on a clean loo

Notsurenow43 · 26/08/2021 22:48

I discovered a product called HG last week. You can buy on amazon. Absolute miracle

olderthanyouthink · 26/08/2021 22:53

Black harpic is brilliant

And like PP I've used citric acid before too, works much better than vinegar for limescale and if you mix it with salt and hot water it magics away rust stains on fabric

girlsyearapart · 26/08/2021 22:58

Spirits of salt is what works on ours. Sil does end of tenancy cleans and she recommended it

I'm going to try this !

I love that your DM bought toilet cleaner with her when she came to visit. #DM's are nutters

Can you imagine if it was MIL who brought it? Grin
Carboncheque · 26/08/2021 23:03

I just googled ‘spirits of salt’ and it’s hydrochloric acid. No wonder it cleans well!

Oldraver · 27/08/2021 07:54

Black Harpic left overnight (with the water taken out) worked for me

So good I thought I would try it in the marked up taps with had everything thrown at them

Oh it worked wonders, and stripped all 'shine ' off them

wheeltrims · 27/08/2021 09:23

I recently used the black Harpic for the same reason and whilst it got rid of the stain I hadn't been able to shift for years I didn't wipe the bottle properly, put it down next to the sink and burned a bottom of the bottle shaped ring into the bathroom worktop Confused

ToffeeNotCoffee · 27/08/2021 09:35

These work, unwrap one and pop in the toilet bowl. It will dissolve overnight (or a few hours when the toilet will not be in use. It does not have to be dark outside for it to work.)

I too used to have a clean downstairs toilet pan but the upstairs thick with limescale.

MoriaRoseForever · 27/08/2021 09:57

Do you need to empty the water and if so, how do you do that ? Limescale in my toilet is below the water , so anything I’ve used doesn’t work .

sueelleker · 27/08/2021 11:10

It's 32%.I saw some in Robert Dyas yesterday.
peridito · 28/08/2021 22:04

@MoriaRoseForever - you can just ladle/scoop the water out into a bucket .Use a yoghurt pot ,tin can or something else that will hold water and is disposable .
