I’m not sure if We could I was a bit confused

My Dh works and I don’t but he doesn’t earn a lot. We use childcare before school but could we claim childcare help ?

You both have to work and earn a certain amount I believe.

Both need to work, which is not helpful for actually getting childcare sorted to enable a job!

As the link above explains there are exceptions where you don't both have to work. If this does not apply what about Universal Credit, if he is a low earner the child care costs could make you eligible for some help.

I think one of the exceptions may apply to us I will try to apply. Hopefully it works as would make things a little easier!

You can apply and state that you’re due to start a new job in the next 30 days, so you don’t need to wait until you’ve started and been paid before you can use the discount.

Why would you need childcare if you don't work?

Some parents have medical conditions etc that make full time childcare difficult, or need to attend regular appointments, or would prefer their children got some socialisation in a professional setting.

We need wraparound care for one of our children who is at a different school nearer to Dh work - so he does the drop off and pick up there so he can work a full day whilst I sort out the younger dc who attend school and nursery nearer home
