Universal Credit - Does this sound about right? So worried

I have gone into UC after realising we entitled to some.

I put it into the entitled to calculator in June and have just seen what my future payments will be (currently not quite that because of the weeks in between payment waiting etc).

Anyway, it's saying we are entitled to £603 a month?

DH's salary - £1890

Carers Allowance (Me) - £260

Child Benefit money

Then DLA - £260 (I know it isn't means tested)

Apparently the total entitlement is £603 but I'm not convinced this is right.

For example, SIL/BIL have told us there's before. They have a lower take home pay but get about half the UC.

I'm so worried it's over calculated and we're being overpaid.

I have put it into the log onto UC and they are saying that yes, it's right.

But the thing is, I've heard stories before that it doesn't matter if they insist it's right. If it's wrong then you owe every penny back that's overpaid

Does it sort of sound right to you? If you're good with these things? Thanks so much Thanks

www.uc-advice.co.uk/calculate-your-entitlement/universal-credit-rates-2021-2022

These are the rates for UC.
The amount you get will depend on your ages, wages, if you rent or have a mortgage etc. It is quite complicated!
If you’re receive carers allowance that is deducted £ for £ from your UC payment but you will get the carer element from UC as well as the disabled child element.

www.uceplus.co.uk/how-much-will-my-payment-be

This is a good calculator for working out how much UC you should receive.
Carers allowance, child benefit and DLA is paid separately, so even though UC deduct the amount for Carers Allowance you won’t be worse off plus CA pays your NI contribution towards your pension.
Hope that makes sense and helps.

It's not just about take home pay though, you will have a carers premium and a disabled element too, do your BIL and SIL have those same circumstances?

FoodIsOnMyMind · 26/08/2021 10:18

Also depends on housing costs.
We get 900 ish.
DH is on same as your dh give or take.
But our rent is. 1k! Which is cheap for here.
I'm A sahm atm. Due to childcare logistics. But as soon as youngest starts school it'll be easier.

Our housing costs are £759 a month, reasonable for this area

SIL and BIL don't have a disabled child, no. But they do have 3 kids!

You get a lot for disabled children. We have a household income of around £50k but with 2 disabled children we still get £40 a week in tax credits.

It will be the DLA that increases the entitlement

Duetorain · 26/08/2021 10:29

First UC work out a maximum based on your circumstances- from what you have said so far - couple standard element, child element, child disability and carer and if you rent housing element. As things stand couple element going down £20 per week - entitled to should show that.

Next reduce
Carers allowance deducted in full. Wages have a work allowance so disregard part of wage. If you get housing element £293 if not £515 a month. Anything over than reduces UC 63p each £1 earned. If you have savings over £6000 that would affect UC as well, as could certain other income but as you say not DLA.

Thank you - I think it's my DS increasing it so much. It seems it's over £400 more actually, compared to if he wasn't getting any DLA

No wonder people advised to get the DLA for more reasons than the DLA itself!

Still seems very generous though when so many people you see in media etc are having to choose between heating and food Sad feels like I'm 'swanning' about a bit too much

Very grateful though. Life with a disabled DC isn't easy.
