What does a galllstone/gallbladder attack feel like?

So while I was pregnant it was found I had 5 gallstones, that was about 3 months ago. Nothing was done. Last night I had a really fatty meal (a cream based dish) ever since then I have had pain under my right boob and just below, and I have just been sick- I originally thought heartburn but it won't go away with antacids! I'm not really sure what to do! If I ring 111 they will send a ambulance as the pain is radiating into my chest.

@PluggingAway

I called an ambulance because I thought I was dying
Me too. It felt like trying to give birth through your chest. Like Alien.

@Standrewsschool

My dh said that a gallbladder attack was the worse pain he has ever experienced.
I've only had two worse pains in my whole life, and one of them was childbirth.

I've just had my gallbladder out. I had intermittent pain for about 2-3 years. For me, the pain was more central than to the right, which is unusual but not unheard of. It really is the worst pain ever. It's not like a headache or period pain that eases with water/painkillers/light exercise/warm bath. You cannot distract yourself from the pain. If 0 was no pain and 10 was the worst pain ever, I'd rate it as 15. Totally off the scale.

Although it was diagnosed on an ultrasound, every doctor told me my pain was probably not gallstones because of the pain being central rather than right (well go rewrite NHS website, BUPA, patient.co.uk etc which all said pain is normally right but can be central.

I had the surgery 3 weeks ago. After I had it the surgeon told me my gallbladder had 200+stones in it and it was no wonder I was in pain. I rest my case.

Sorry just to clarify, the doctors agreed I had gallstones and needed surgery but did not think the gallstones was causing the pain because it was a couple of inches to the left of my gallbladder. Hmm When they realised how full it was they agreed the pain was caused by the gallstones.

I didn't take on board the 200+gallstones the surgeon told me I had. I thought it sounded a lot, but since then from other people and on this thread....5 or 6 gallstones and the gallbladders coming out. And I had over 200, before they lost count and sent it off to the lab.

I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago, for a fibroid the size of a melon. I was on internet forums talking to women whose fibroid was ''huge! It's the size of a satsuma!'' When I have surgery, I certainly need it Grin

When I got in to theatre my gallbladder was so inflamed it was stuck to my liver but only had sludge left in it, my bile duct was massive because they said I must have passed a massive stone, funnily enough I nearly decided to not bother with the op because the pain had stopped. Exh had 7 big stones removed during his MRCP yesterday.

My pain was more central too - seemed to start at the front then travel through my body to my back. The first ones weren't so obvious but once they got going there was no missing them, I'd be rolling around the floor in agony. Sometimes you'd think if I can just be sick/go to the loo it will help but it never does.

@Spidey66
Jeez Spidey, dunno how many i had, only about 2/3 I think. But Christ it hurt. Definitely would rather have given birth to an elephant.
All kudos to you. 💐💐

Bloody hell @Spidey66, hope you're ok now.
I joined a FB group called gallbladder support something or other. It's really helpful- lots of symptoms I never realised were related (things like feeling tired because you're not absorbing the energy vitamins because you're not processing fat properly and an ache lower right near hip which is to do with inflamed GB affecting a nerve. ) I'll find the link in a mo' but it's been nice to know you're not alone. I'm waiting to decide what to do. As I said, since I started with the enzymes, I can actually eat anything in moderation. My last big attack came from a handful of hazelnuts, though lettuce has given me the runs as well.

This is the group. Run by an American couple. Lots of diet advice too.
