5 years since my son died

I put this in chat because I really just wanted to say it where people would see it.
Do a first aid course.
Encourage your children to do a first aid course.
Talk to your teenagers about looking out for their friends, what to do in a bad situation, how to get help, have a plan for unexpected events.
Learn how to put somebody in the recovery position if they faint, fall, or have too much to drink, take something they shouldn't.
Such a simple thing to do that could save a life.
My son would be alive today if his friend had just turned him on his side.
I live with that every day of my life.
It happens more often than you would think.
St John's Ambulance and the Red Cross do courses, I am sure there are more.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Unfathomable pain. Thanks for raising awareness though. I'm well due to renew my training. Never thought of putting kids into first aid although just this weekend I was thinking of teaching them how to diall 999 and know our phone numbers off by heart. Thank you for spreading the word even I your grief. Hugs to you. Real ones.

I'm so sorry for your loss OP. Sending hugs. I recently wrote to my MP about this. First aid should be part of the essential curriculum

We are 3 years into your nightmare. We had a chance because we had done that course. In the end it wasn't enough but it got us to a hospital, a place where we stood a chance of not losing our child. I completely agree. Go gently.

I'm so sorry to those who have lost children xxx

Im going to try and find some first aid training for my kids - can anyone advise of any providers? Kids are 9&14. St. John's ambulance not offering any courses near me unfortunately.

It's hard to believe it's been 5 years @endofthelinefinally. Such a sad anniversary but a wonderful thing you are doing using it to raise awareness and education. I know you haven't always felt it but you are a strong lady and I for one am in awe of you.

I could do with a refresher course, and my teen son has never done first aid, so as a way to honour your lovely boy I will look into and arrange courses for us both.

Thank you, and 💐

It is heartening to see that so many people will consider this. Even just a few more people sharing and raising awareness could save a life. I know everyone can't learn advanced life support, but just the recovery position would be a start.

Im so very sorry for your loss, but so glad you've used your experience to educate and save others.

I am so sad and sorry for others here who have lost their children.
Once they grow up and go out with their friends, we are not there to help.
It is so important that they can rely on each other.
The lad that was with ds had to give evidence at the inquest. He has to live with everything the coroner said. His life will never be the same.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Can anyone link to a basic first aid course that would be suitable for a 12 year old please?

This has made me want to do one with him at home.
