Ds4 went down with it yesterday. He's feeling better but still a bit tired and weak. I can feel the nausea slowly building so I'm next and Dd6 will probably not be far behind.

Please give me your best tips to get through it! I'm a single parent, no support network but wouldn't want to expose anyone else to it anyway. Uber eats can deliver an Asda shop (doorstep drop) within an hour to my address so we'll be ok for food. I'm really not looking forward to this Sad

Stock up on dioralyte - it can be sipped - to ensure you don't get dehydrated. Flat coke can also be good, something to do with the phenylalanine in it. When I had a bad stomach bug I found it difficult to face food as I associated it with the throwing up, etc. Took me good couple of weeks after the symptoms went away to get back to normal.

Get prepared with easy food for your children to eat - soups/ jacket potatoes with toppings. Anything that can be put in microwave. Even pre - grate cheese etc. nothing than will cause you to have to prep too long if you do actually get sick. Easily available snacks so they can help them selves. Let them watch lots of tv if you are poorly and take it easy. Hopefully won’t last too long Smile

If you have prime they do same day food deliveries so I’d just stock up on easy to digest convenient foods and plenty of toilet roll!

It doesn’t last long thankfully so you will be ok. Horrible though, I do sympathise. I’ve had it twice when I’ve also had a breastfeeding baby so I’ve had to breastfeed and vomit into a bowl at the same time, lovely.

Pepto-bismol
Flat lemonade
Bread for toast
Lots of cooled boiled water
Toilet roll!

Good luck!

Ice lollies can be a good way of getting fluids and sugar into you when sick (learned this when pregnant and has come in useful a few times since then).

Lots of lazing about, don't put pressure on yourself to do things that aren't absolutley necessary.

Plain foods.

Even when you think its gone, expect round two.

Thank you everyone, I'm adding everything to the list. Good tip about the toilet roll!

Maybe the nausea you have is just the anxiety you feel about catching it? DD had a foul stomach bug a couple of years back but was the only one to catch it - but I felt sick and stressed all week worrying who would be next.

Fingers crossed you’re fine Smile

Stash Towels, wipes, buckets, cleaning products around the house. Stash bottles of drinking water too. Have clean bedsheets ready but a well placed towel can save you a full change if the child voms on it!

I always wanted crisps when I recovered so I guess that’s for the salt.

Good luck

Oh God, send help! Symptoms are in full swing here. The abdominal/back cramps are almost as bad as labour Sad ds was far more stoic than me, I must say.

Hang in there!

FrownedUpon · 25/08/2021 20:31

Oh no! Hope you recover quickly.

Try to drink as much water as you can between throwing up episodes. It's much less painful if there's something in your stomach for it to clamp down on, and empty stomach hurts more. At one point I was downing a pint of water, then throwing it back up again five minutes later.
Noroiscoming · 25/08/2021 22:19

The worst has passed! That was really awful, but thankfully short lived. I still have occasional stomach cramps but nothing like before and the vomiting has stopped and fever brought down with paracetamol.

I never once got sick in 2 pregnancies. In fact I think I've only thrown up a handful of times in my life. I can't imagine how people cope with months of nausea during pregnancy Sad

Stay off dairy until you are back to eating normally.

drspouse · 25/08/2021 22:27

It didn't last long for us either. Hope you are fighting fit soon.
