Can anyone help me solve this mystery that’s been heavy on my noggin?

I went to bed on Friday night, and as usual, didn’t put the ‘big light’ on but went straight to sit on the edge of my bed to flick on my bedside light.

I got an almighty electric shock, and a small burn on my fingers. I then put the main light on an saw that the casing to the lamp switch looked like it had been smashed/broken, revealing live wires (see pics).

Now, the lamps are only about 2 years old, and as you can see, where the switch is situated means it doesn’t trail on the floor meaning I couldn’t have accidentally stepped on it. Also I don’t wear shoes in my bedroom and I think it would take a pretty hefty stamp wearing boots to cause that kind of damage.

For information, I live alone and don’t have pets. Can anyone come up with an explanation? It’s freaking me out!

(Have included pic of the other switch on the other lamp for comparison).

Do you have a bedside table with a drawer?
Caught in the side of a bedside drawer? You might not notice it catching at the side as you would be looking at the front when you shut it.

Whatever caused the electric shock also caused the casing to blow apart.

I don’t know but it’s pretty dangerous. I’d contact the manufacturer and tell them you got an electric shock.

Aaahhhh! Never thought of the drawer! That makes sense, thank you. Mystery solved!
