Portugal testing

Honestly, I feel so stupid, but I really cant get my head arond the testing requirements. DH and I are due to go in the 2nd week of Spetember for a week. We are both double vaccinated and have the cerficate on our phones which we have uploaded.
What I'm struggling with is do we still need an LFT test and which one? I know we then need to take a test three days before we return and 2 days after returning, plus I know about the PL form. So, which providers have been removed - do we know yet and when should we order them. Also will it really cost us over £200 each?

I know this sounds as though I am really dense, but for some reason I just can't compute it i my hesd?

Can soeone do a 1,2, 3 step type explanation for me!!

Thanks!

Portugal is now accepting the rapid antigene testing. I got mine from covid19testing.co.uk. You order it online, they send you the kit, and you do the test at home and email them a picture of the completed test and your passport. What is great is that you can buy two tests, take one kit to Portugal, and submit it before you are due back in the UK. So you don’t have to faff around looking for a provider in Portugal.

That is the perfect response!! Thank you

Sorry, it’s this one!

We got back on Friday from Portugal. We did tests at home before going ( took photo of test and uploaded to website. We got the negative certificate within an hour but you can do it up to 48 hours before) and then took another set of the same tests before returning. The day 2 tests were a bit more of a pain as they had to be sent off and filling in the forms on the website took ages. But again, results came really quickly.
To leave the uk we had to show vaccine certificates, negative result and passenger locator form and then they wanted to see the same again at passport control in Faro.
Totally worth the hassle though!

Remember you need to buy the day 2 tests before you go as you need the booking reference number for your PLF

Thank you all so much!

Still a bit confused...sorry!! So do we only have to do the antigen before we go?? But one pcr there and one at home? I promise I'm not really stupid, just for some reason I can't get it straight in my head

You can do an LFT there. So the c19 take a photo with your passport thing is fine. The day 2 test is a PCR. Also, FYI, you can do that any time within 48 hours of landing. We live in the sticks so did ours at the airport and dropped them at a Dropbox at a service station on the way home.

Clymene · 24/08/2021 22:54

It is really confusing!

IvorHughJarrs · 24/08/2021 23:05

Sorry I'm confused as well!
I thought if you were double jabbed and had the certificate to show, you didn't need a test before going?

I think the resort we are going to has an arrangement with a local clinic for tests before return so thought I only had to sort a PCR for day 2 after return?

Pancakeorcrepe · 25/08/2021 05:27

@ivorhughjarrs Unfortunately UK is not in the EU anymore so if you had your two vaccinations in the UK, they are not accepted in the EU (including Portugal). So you still need to do the tests. The only Portuguese territory that accepts UK vaccination cards is Madeira, one of the islands.

Pancakeorcrepe · 25/08/2021 05:45

@ninnynonny you need to do a test in the UK before you leave to Portugal (antigen or PCR both accepted). Antigen is cheaper and you can do it at home without having to send anything in the post.
Before your return to the UK, the same again (antigen or PCR both accepted). Antigen more convenient as you can take the little kit with you. It’s very light and small. On the second day of being back in the UK, you need to do a PCR test. This test is due only on the second day but you need to book it before, as the booking reference is needed for the passenger locator form. You can do it all on the website

That is a very good summary.

It is essential you get it right as they literally will not allow you to board the plane either going or returning if your paperwork is not correct. About 10 people got turned away from the outward flight and many more from our return flight recently.

ninnynonny · 25/08/2021 16:04

That's what's panicking me - getting it exactly right!
