Suggestions for a lovely place for a girls' weekend in the middle of England?

I'm looking for ideas for a really nice place to stay for a girls' weekend. Travelling from Surrey and York so looking for something relatively central. We'd like somewhere which ideally has a pool or spa treatments but also country walks close by. Rural or small country town rather than urban.

Pretty decent budget, £150-£200 per night per twin room.

Any suggestions?

The newly opened Buxton Spa hotel is supposed to be lovely...

Third vote for Ardencote - good spa , food and v reasonably priced . Cleaverdon ( the village it’s in ) has lovely walks and you have Stratford and Warwick close by

Was also about to suggest Ragdale. Or there is Hoar cross in Staffordshire.

The Crescent in Buxton. It has been newly opened after a massive refurbishment and has a rooftop pool and spa. I’m am going this weekend and cannot WAIT.

Wyboston Lakes Y Spa. Unbelievably convenient, bang on the A1 in the middle of the country. The spa is gorgeous and if you want to, you can pootle off to lots of lovely nearby lovely villages. And just down the road from Cambridge.

How old are the girls? Teens or pre-teens?

If only! Sorry for misuse of terminology. More accurately, middle aged women escaping the drudge of work and small children Grin

Many thanks for the suggestions, loads I'll go away and look at. Much as I'd love the Costwolds we'd prefer to be more central between York and Surrey to minimise travel for all. Ditto fo Bath, but actually we wouldn't want to be in a city anyway.

Warwick - Ardencote Manor is a great 4-star hotel in a village setting about 5 miles away with a great spa and indoor and outdoor pools. Great deals at the moment which are well within your price range.

Scarby9 · 24/08/2021 18:33

Ragdale Hall, Leicestershire.
I have also stayed at Chanpneys Springs and would now choose Ragdale over Champneys.

Barnsdale Hall near Rutland Water.

Or Stamford (2 hours equidistant from York and Heathrow Airport). There’s The George or you could stay at another hotel and book spa treatments in town.

How about Hoar Cross Hall hotel and spa?

How was your weekend? We were in Buxton today and walked past. I really want to go back and stay in the hotel.
