Does anybody have Sky Fibre and

Sorry for the potentially stupid question but I’m not having much luck with either sky or online info in general.

We’re about to have our WiFi upgraded to Sky Fibre. For various reasons, we need to have a “normal” telephone in the house and am struggling to find what telephone might actually be suitable with the new set up.
Does anybody possibly have any recommendations please?

You presently have Sky non fibre?- so you have a Sky hub , that is plugged into your telephone line? So if you have a telephone master socket, you don't actually have to have a phone on it just the hub via a filter. Sky Fibre is very good, I have it-is it to be FTTC (fibre to the cabinet ) or FTTP (fibre to the premises)?

Yes to currently having sky standard non-fibre broadband and yes sky hub plugged into telephone master socket.
And it’s going to be FTTP.

And sorry again for being stupid, so how do we then make sure we have a phone that will work with the new setup? Because my understanding from sky customer services was that our existing landline phone would no longer work but they were less than helpful about what phone I should buy to make it work going forward. Hope that makes sense.

We've had Sky Fibre broadband in the past (we're currently with Virgin but chop and change to get the deals).

We also have to have a landline phone because we have very poor mobile phone signal. We just have any old cordless phone. The current one we have we've had years and is a cheap Argos job, so I doubt it is anything special. I was totally unaware that you needed a certain type of handset to work with fibre broadband, so I think it's likely that your current phone will be fine.

However, having googled, it seems things may have moved on since we were last with SKy.

Is this what you're asking about:

With FTTP, the fibre bypasses the normal landline copper so you will not have a live copper connection for an old fashioned phone to the exchange.
In this case you will need a phone with interacts with your internet and hub, they are known as DECT phone, or an ATA phone. The ATA is a way of connecting a phone you might already have to the new FTTP.

However, if you have a decent mobile , then do you really need a landline? Your mobile can use wifi calling , which gives a strong signal, even if you are in an area where mobile reception is poor.

Your house phone will plug into your
Sky broadband hub (the Internet router) . Your calls will be made over the Internet, you won't have a standard phoneline anymore.

The new phone box needs to be plugged into electricity so you need to think where you want this situated, it needs to be beside a socket.

I'm with Sky and it is Openreach that fit the fibre connection.

If your power goes off you will have no phone line, it is recommended that you have a good mobile signal at home in case of emergency

Thank you! This is exactly the information I was after.
